Dwarf levels solely by exploring, gains World Explorer at level 17
Here's a cute story to brighten up your Sunday. Tenen, a Dwarf Warrior in Modan Co on Moon Guard, decided that he would start at level one and only explore. No quests, no killing mobs, no PvP. Just exploration.
Seventeen levels later, he's explored every single outdoor zone in the game, and completed the World Explorer achievement. So if you wanted to know how much XP you could get just from exploring, there's your answer. It took four days of playtime to accomplish.
Of course, he couldn't do it all on his own; aside from the ravenous mobs, some areas are simply inaccessible without a flying mount. He got some summoning help from a cooperative Warlock. The Charge skill was also apparently useful in getting to some hard-to-reach places.
Congrats to Tenen! It's always nice to see players do something a little different.
[Thanks, Frijona]

I hope this makes it onto [1. Local]. That was brilliant.

This took some dedication, with some help from some very nice people. So to all of them, Gratz. :)

This reminds me of an old post started by someone during vanilla WoW, it asked what level one could get to just by exploration XP. Blizzard responded saying that through data mining teleportation exploiters that the avarage level was 14. (I may be off on that, this was sometime ago.)
Anyway, congrats, that is some serious patients!

I've been planning on doing this once you can turn off levelling to have a level 1 with the title. Well done to this person, and all others who've done it/attempted it before him.

/agree with all good comments.
Many Gratz to you tenen for your achievement and for getting on the wow.com site for it lol.

That's not just patience for the dwarf, but for the Warlock and his friends for sticking with it during the more inaccessible places. All of them deserve credit for what would be a very tedious achievement.

Someone in my guild did this about two months ago.

Second post down.
Where you guys been? :-p

Maybe if your guildie sent in the information beforehand, he would have gotten featured. Chances are, this is the first guy to send WoW Insider information on his feat, thus he was the first featured, but not the first to achieve it. :)

Doesn't wow.com fact check at all? How hard is it to query the armory for information before reposting someone's 'First!' submission?

I never claimed that Tenen was first. I just said it was cool.

The Explorers League should be very proud of this little guy :-)

How did he do this? In Northrend there are places you have to fly to do get the discovery. Two are in Sholazar and one or 2 are in Storm Peaks. :)

It says in the article he had help from a warlock.

Those places are tricky, but it is possible to explore them without a flying mount (got World Explorer at 71 without any summons) through a lot of careful climbing and in one case dying, rezzing a bit further up, then dying again, etc.
Rankoa Jul 26th 2009 5:22PM
Looks like he wasn't just getting xp from exploring....

There are areas you can explore that don't count for the Explorer title. I imagine he got experience from exploring some of these "extra" areas

^ In Post 30, he states he had xp from 406 kills. I'm curious how low he would have been with zero kills.
