Trading card mounts no longer BoP

This means it should be easier to obtain these special mounts if players are indeed selling them for copious amounts of gold - conceivably setting record amounts at the auction house. This effectively kills the scamming method of supposedly selling desireable items like the Spectral Tiger mount. On the other hand, someone with real world cash who gets one of those mounts off eBay can theoretically trade it in game for some whopper gold. That's kind of like they're selling gold in some roundabout way. Either way, score one for Blizzard. It looks like it might be time to start earning a bit of money... think anyone will sell the tiger for 500 Gold? No? Drat.

I'm divided on this subject. On one hand, It'd be pretty awesome to finally be able to get a spectral tiger of my own, especially if the market is flooded and they are cheap as hell.
On the other hand, if everyone has one, which they will, they aren't exactly "WOO LOOK AT ME" anymore. Either way, I'm still looking optimistic about this.

I don't think the market will be flooded with them, as the card won't become any less rare.
Superthrust Jul 26th 2009 10:33PM
itanus, as far as i knew (not sure) but the series the card is in, is no longer made...

@ Superthrust
Exactly my point. ;)

Considering there are at least four people in my guild who got all their promotional item codes because they either work for Blizzard or are friends or family with Blizzard employees, I doubt it matters much if the cards are rare. Hell, there was a Topps employee selling tigers for 5k on one of the servers I play on back when it first came out. I really wish I had jumped on that now...

Shame you can only have 214748 gold 36 silvers 48 coppers

The market will hardly be flooded- they're still just as rare as before, only difference is people will be able to trade them amongst themselves. It's not like they're introducing more Spectral Tigers into the market than usual; but the ones that are already circulating will change hands.
All in all I see this is a good change for lucky people. ;)

But they're not unique, therefore the card owners can buy several dozen and sell a lot of them
Magma Jul 26th 2009 11:15PM
^^^Exactly what he said.

We're in your Action RPG, making your Anni charm tradeable.

Yay legalized gold trading :/ Not sure how I feel about this tbh - but if this makes it to Live realms, I will probably buy a bunch of eBay mounts just to resell in-game.
Sylas Jul 26th 2009 10:21PM
And how could you not do this before the change, now you just have the item to trade and sell in game, before you had to give them the code.
This does not change anything in game for normal players, it just stamps out one of the largest scams, which robed players of gold, accounts, and Game Masters of time.
Veneroso Jul 26th 2009 10:24PM
Personally I hope they do this with the other trading card items as well. I have a problem with spending real money on a vanity item that is only used in a game where I have to pay to have continued access too (subscription). I'd love a fishing chair, but not spening $80 on ebay to have one for one of my characters (as they aren't account bound). And conversely I have virtually nothing to spend gold on so having the option of dumping some to get a vanity item off the AH or trade channel is another story.
Стрелок Jul 26th 2009 10:24PM
Before I would have had to either buy gold from scammers / hackers (an unsavory prospect at best), or rely on the honesty of the person I'm selling my e-Bay-bought code to. I'd either have to give the code first and hope s/he actually pays me, or find someone in-game who'd trust me enough to give me a load of gold first, before getting the code from me.
This change by Blizz resolves / streamlines all those pesky trust issues.

Honestly, I've always felt from the beginning of this idea, that all items from these should be available on all the toons, and now with Bind on Account as an option. They should do it this way on all the items.
A Nonny Mouse Jul 26th 2009 11:34PM
I predict they'll end up pretty cheap, eventually, as players with the code undercut each other. Since there's theorectically no limit to how many can be sold and they're ridiculously easy for anyone who has the card to acquire, it'll just end up being something like vendor pets on the AH. The difference is, it'll be a select group making the profit, not simply anyone with time and patience to do it.
Croe Jul 26th 2009 11:46PM
The only interest in those loot cards would be for the spectral tiger. (For the coolness factor). I'd be surprised if something like the Red Bear-on, which is just the same bear already in game with a different colour, would fetch more than, say, 2k gold.
Ringo Flinthammer Jul 27th 2009 5:00AM
Actually, the bear's got a different saddle, and no armor. It looks substantially different than the Northrend bears and the Blizzcon bear.
And really, the tiger's got nothing on the rocket mount.

I just checked the latest PTR, they are still BOP. They were Boe before but as the latest PTR build, they remain BOP.
Just a side story of my own, when I first found out that the spectral tigers became BOE, I instantly bought 8 tigers on my toon and did my last copy char to the PTR. I sold the first 3 tigers in less than 20 minutes for random price from 20 - 50k and gave the rest to my friends.
I decided to put the last spectral tiger on AH with a starting bid of 5k and promptly told trade that there is one on AH.
Constant whispers of "whats the code", "where did you get it?", "how much you selling it?" had made me set a macro to reply each questions. When the price grew to 28k in less than 1 hour, I started to get more whispers than before.
The next day, the price on spectral went up to 70k. Then 140k... A new whisper "LOL NO ONE IS GONNA BUY THAT! Take it off AH and I'll pay ya 20g!"
At the end, 1 spectral tiger got sold for 214 748g as the AH would not accept any more bids higher than set value.
