Breakfast Topic: Will you buy the TCG mounts now they're no longer BoP?

Earlier in the week, we mentioned that mounts from the WoW Trading Card Game are no longer Bind on Pickup. Do you hear that ever-advancing noise? That thunderous roar? That's the sound of a million collectors cheering their little hearts out. Ever the boon and bane of the die-hard mount addict, these cards have been known to fetch a pretty price on eBay and have been the subject of recent scams. Indeed as the owner of El Pollo Grande, the Big Battle Bear (aka The Red Bearon) and both forms of the X-51 Nether Rocket, I can relate. I really want the infamous Spectral Tiger and now, for the right sum of gold, it seems like I could have a chance.
So I wonder, constant readers, does this change mean you will finally be able to get your hands on a mount without paying top dollar on an auction website? How much exactly, while we're at it, would you be willing to pay with in-game gold for a mount? Why do you think Blizzard have implemented this system? Is it just another gold sink or the answer to many players' prayers?

As someone who is currently trying to get 14 K gold for a mammoth... and also going for the year long holiday extravaganza for a faster flyer... I cant really go out and say that paying so much money for mounts its silly can I?
Now, I would pay in game gold for in game stuff and if those mounts where sold for 5 or even 10 dollars I wouldn't mind buying one or two... but can you believe people paid hundreds of dollars for a mount? that I cant do.
On the bright side, think of the people that play both WoW and the TCG. If you are lucky you get a nice mount and boom! you got your self 12 K gold easy and clean. I made over 250 gold selling Cloth, uncommon gems and a few eternals, imagine if you were to sell a mount.

Wasn't there a money cap for players?
Like 214,748 gold, 36 silver, 48 copper...?

Nothing has changed except the scam of the card number is no longer possible. The mounts won't be any more plentiful in game, but now when someone's trying to "sell" the tiger mount..they will have to actually HAVE it.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but...as i recall once you got the code you could purchase as many of these mounts as you wanted; though the need did not exist until this patch to ever have more than one. So what's to stop somebody from purchasing a number of them and selling them?
Irem Jul 28th 2009 10:52AM
They also changed it so that you only get one mount per card.

This has to be a good thing. So many people on our server have been 'hacked' recently by the people behind the scam. As for the price of the mount, well ..... there will always be *someone* willing to pay stupid amounts of gold for rare items.

It's just in-game money. Once you've bought the necessary stuff -- gemming and enchanting your gear -- what else are you supposed to do with it? It's not like there's player or guild housing to suck any gold out of the economy.

I'm obsessed with doing my dailies, and it's resulted in me having quite a bit of gold to spare... Might be interesting to have something to spend all that gold on.
Dreadskull Jul 28th 2009 11:14AM
Since the chances of me ever getting enough gold to buy one will be unlikely, probably not.
Knowing how outrageous prices can be on my server, I wouldn't be surprised if people try selling them for 20k or something.
Only the richest of the rich will be able to afford them most likely.

Right now I just wonder if Blizzard changed the visuals in the tooltip to freak out data-miners like MMO-Champ.
As posted by Boubouille:
this information is absolutely NOT confirmed by Blizzard for the moment

I think it will cause more gold farming to happen. What do you think people are going to do when they need to get 100k Gold to buy one of these mounts?
They are going to buy gold from gold farmers to get it.
Clarick Jul 28th 2009 12:57PM
Doesn't this move indirectly equate to gold buying. You need gold so you pay real money to get something to sell for gold in-game. Strange move for Blizzard
Orisi Jul 28th 2009 1:06PM
I think that a lot of people will begin to charge through the nose for it, because quite simply, people will be more willing to pay it. The trade is pretty much 100% safe now (as safe as blizzard can make it with noobs who dont pay attention) so provided nobody takes the mount outta the trade window, you're safe. which means people will spend a lot more, because its not a 'risk' in so much as loosing the money.
vaarsej Jul 28th 2009 1:13PM
I wonder if the lure of gold will cause people to break down and finally give up the exclusivity of their TCG mount. I was thinking of getting the Red Rocket on my toon, but if 50 other people can buy it with stockpiled gold, then it wouldn't be nice anymore. And imagine the amount of tells I'd get asking to sell the mount to them. It just wouldn't be worth it.
Clarick Jul 28th 2009 1:17PM
They are dropping BoP not BoE and mounts are learned things. the item will probally be consumed so if you are riding something you won't be able to sell it to someone
Deadly. Off. Topic. Jul 28th 2009 1:27PM
At least now there’s at least a chance to get a loot card or two in a packaged box where you may or may not get a mount card, but you’ll at least get something for your money. Back when the Spectral Tiger was out, you weren’t even guaranteed a loot card at all and could buy package after boxed package with nothing to show except double cards.

I was heavily into MTG back in the day. I missed the best stuff though, getting in when Revised was just going out-of-print (OOP). One thing to remember is that OOP doesn't mean "will never reprint", especially if the company has not made such a promise. In the case of MTG, some Beta cards are truly OOP (as guaranteed by Wizard of the Coast), but though Revised was OOP in the American market, it was eventually reprinted in various foreign languages around the world.
Usually you can't get OOP packs, though sometimes they are sold. Be careful though, because scammers will use techniques to open the packs, take out the best stuff, replace the card and reseal them.
It is always tough to know whether to buy packs of cards or shop for a specific card (such as on Ebay). If you play the game and are building decks, then typically its good to buy cards to play and trade with. But if you don't play, then I would recommend shopping direct on Ebay or at a reputable card shop.
poggg Jul 28th 2009 3:29PM
Nah. If I'm going to get that amount of gold, I'd rather just get a motorcycle.
Beelzebud Jul 28th 2009 3:32PM
LOL @ anyone that thinks they'll actually be able to buy these in AH for in-game gold.
