Not being on an RP server, I can't say I see anyone who even remotely has a story based on NPCs. For each character I always try to have a back story. I decided that what remained of my paladin's family would be in darkshire somewhere. While I was leveling through there, I clicked on the girl who has a crush on Watcher Backus. I decided that it was sort of cute and just ended up making her the friend of my paladin. Not exactly a supper plot device or anything, just an added flavor that bonds my character to the world of azeroth a bit more.
