A bag for Cooking
Profession bags are a godsend for almost anyone leveling up a profession -- while the loss of bag space in favor of specialty slots can be a problem sometimes at the lower levels, almost all high level characters can definitely make use of at least one profession bag, to hold all of the extra ore, or gems, or leather, or whatever else you're hauling around all the time. But Natalia over on WoW LJ makes an excellent point: just where is our cooking bag? And how about a fishing bag? You might argue that only the gathering professions are meant to have bags (the Blacksmithing bag is actually a Mining bag, so even Engineers can make use of it), but that's not quite true: Engineering does have its own bags, as does Inscription. Cooking and/or Fishing, you'd think, should both have their own profession bags.Of course, they are both secondary professions, so maybe Blizzard believes that because they're more or less optional, you should be able to carry around all of your food and spices and lures in your regular bags. But cooking especially has gotten pretty complicated lately (there are a few foods that you've got to have in your bags regularly to do the daily quests, especially Chilled Meat), and so a lot of players would definitely find a use for a dedicated bag. First Aid, probably not, but Cooking and Fishing? Definitely.
And if you want to really dream, maybe food could actually get a bonus from being kept in a special "refridgerated" bag -- nothing big, just maybe a few extra points of the bonus stat or a little longer duration when you actually take care of your food rather than just tossing it in with all of the Kobold eyeballs and oily swords and cloth that you're also carrying around. But that would be extra -- for now, just a bigger bag meant for cooking and fishing utensils would be fine, thanks.

Well there's no tackle boxes for fishing either and right now, which all the changes made to ingredients not being needed for recipes any more theres not much of a reason for a cooking bag as much as there would be for a tackle box for poles and hooks/lures..
Cooking Bags would probably either be a spice bag of sorts or a cooler.. You know to keep things fresh..

I need a cooking bag for my 40+ stacks of fish and meats and spices more than I need a bag for my best pole+fishing hat+ lures tbh.

Tackle box.
*shakes head*
With all the inventory mods out there I'm surprised people even care about profession bags anymore.
Take a look at ArkInventory for example. Not only does it let you view all your bags in 1 window, but it lefts you setup custom categories. Seems easier and less time consuming to have everything auto sorting itself in a display then looking through the extra non-profession bags.. and less time consuming then manually sorting the extra bags to only hold what you want.
I dunno, if profession bags were CHEAPER then regular bags... like quivers and ammo pouches are (BAD soul bags for being 800g, go to your room) then I could see people getting heavy into them.. but I just don't see the point.. even the most popular LITE inventory mod, Bagnons, as basic sorting.

The idea isn't sorting... It's just extra space, 32 slots instead of 22.
And most sane people use them in bank slots, not on their character (unless they are going out to farm something with the proffesion).
Anyway... they should make it work like in WAR - you have a separte inventory for tradeskill stuff, and it's size depends on how high skill level you have.

Why have two? Just keep everything in your Cooler.

I've thought about this before, and I always thought it would be better to give people with professions thew ability to stack higher amounts of crafted items in their bags, but not the ability to sell them as higher stacks (of 99) in AH. Examples, could be cooking for a secondary, tailoring, and blacksmith as mains. If you were a level 450 cook you could be able to stack to 99 fish feasts in your own bag. At 449 you would only be able to carry it to 20 because you do not have the ability to make it yet. Same with fishing. If your at the fishing level it takes to catch Salmon, be able to stack salmon to 99, but only able to sell in 20 stacks in the AH. Blacksmith's and tailors should be able to fold, and stack crafted items in their bags like shirts, mail pants which each takes a new slot. It would help with running back and forth all the time while leveling, and reduce the clutter in your bags all in one shot. Just a thought. :)

That's actually a really good idea.
I have never cared for these profession bags. I don't get them. It seems like I've always been able to find a bigger bag for cheaper (usually AH) that carries EVERYTHING, not just profession stuff, and that's way better.
Maybe a secondary profession bag - a 32 slotter for cooking, fishing and first aid. But I like the stacking idea better - eliminates the need for bags and gives you a reward for getting high up in your profession - seems like unless you raid, there's no point in raising most professions. I wish they were a little more useful to the casual player.

a fishing bag? you need a pole and the fishing hat that gives you a lure. that's two slots. how many stacks of raw fish do you really carry around when you're out questing and raiding that you need 30 more slots? put your flasks and off-spec set in the bank before you go out fishing.

Which is why Mike suggests combining it with Cooking. Northern Spices, various Meats, Chilled Meat, ETC... it adds up, especially if you're dedicating time to leveling those specific professions.

I never carry around profession bags except at very low levels, but would LOOOOOVE a food bag for my bank. We currently have a guild bank tab that's all fish and meat. Must be pretty stinky in there.
Jeremy George Jul 29th 2009 5:26PM
I have stopped using specialty bags everywhere but on mule / bank toons...
It really isn't worth giving up 16 to 20 slots of useful for everything space to get 30 slots of specialty space... the gain of only ten slots just isn't worth it. (esp when fast mounts, mailboxes, hearth stones, etc make it so easy to offload things.)
Noid Jul 29th 2009 5:28PM
Sounds like a bad idea. I mean I hold on to food for a long time, it ruins all the gears and gems i have in there because of the stink, I wouldnt want all of my food ruined at the same time because of stinky old food in my bag. Warcraft Fridge and Freezers. Lets see that started!
Deadlock Jul 29th 2009 5:32PM
Or just remove cooking and fishing, because they're boring!
Frank Jul 29th 2009 7:50PM
sez YOU. i happen to love cooking. : P
Hairfish Jul 30th 2009 2:18AM
Cooking may not be the most exciting profession, but the BUFFS from cooked food are essential.
Deadlock Jul 30th 2009 4:11AM
But if it didn't exist it wouldn't be essential for raids anymore. People are forced to do it for the buffs.
Ryan Jul 30th 2009 7:28AM
Fishing isn't for everyone, I'll give you that. It's time consuming, and there's no way to power level it via the AH like other professions.
But how the hell is cooking any more or less boring than any other crafting profession in the game? Gather mats, make recipe, repeat for 450 levels.
Barinthos Jul 29th 2009 5:35PM
I juse use ArkInventory and have it automatically sort all my stuff for me based on what I want...never have to worry about my profession stuff showing up with my pots or food or anything.

All-in-one bag mods, FTW.
