The Queue: There is a Cow Level

There is no cow level.
Repeat that three times.
But if I was designing WoW I'd make sure there'd be some kind of cow level. After all who doesn't want to slaughter some bovines from hell?
Osul asked...
"What's a good reputation to grind for a newly 80 Ret Paladin?"
First get up to friendly with the Ebon Blade so you can get the Tabard of the Ebon Blade and start championing them in normal and heroic dungeons. Ebon Blade rep will give you the head enchant Arcanum of Torment. There are also a few dailies (and a lot of rep) out in the Shadow Vault, but you have to follow the Ice Crown quest chain until you get there. Only take a couple hours of playing though to open them up.
While you're championing the Ebon Blade, you can also be grinding Sons of Hodir rep for your shoulder enchant. If you're not an inscriptionist (or scribe if you prefer to want to complain on the internet about it) then you want to be sure to get your Hodir rep up as fast as possible – it'll be key in any gear check to get into raids.
Burninate asked...
"Is there a cow level?"
There is no cow level.
But wait! There's more.
In Diablo II there was a secret cow level that you could access once you completed the game. Back then level meant more of a Super Mario level than a "level 80" level. Today people think that a cow level is something like level 80 (or 70, or 60). But there is no cow level in WoW. The history of it is interesting though.
However... in DII the Cow King drops a chest piece called the Cow King's Hide, which also happens to appear in WoW.
Torstein_mellem asked...
"Any ETA on the faction change mechanic?"
No updates since the original announcement, however I wouldn't be surprised to hear one soon. I'm sure we'll hear more about it at BlizzCon, one way or another.
Erated asked...
"What would happen if I logged a character out in the middle of the Argent Coliseum while it's being constructed and then logged back in after it was finished when 3.2 went live?"
You'd probably just be inside the walls and could walk right out. But really I wouldn't do this. If you get caught intentionally bugging or subverting game mechanics you'll get slapped with a warning at least, or a ban at the most.
And if they don't do anything punishment-wise to you, and your character is stuck, well... GM queues are ridiculously long right now, so you'll probably be stuck for a while.
VSUReaper asked...
"What's going to happen to my glyph of Seal of Blood on my pally since they are getting rid of the ability? Will they just remove it from my glyph book, or will it turn into something else?"
Mine just disappeared and showed up as a blank space when I moved my toon to the PTR.
Dennis asked...
"Is there a way to speed up resting time?"
No, not beyond the normal resting bonus you get at an inn.

How many Queue columns does it take for one to finally reach the front of the line?

"Today people think that a cow level is something like level 80 (or 70, or 60)."
What in the hell are you talking about? Nobody thinks that.

Hearth out.
elvendude Jul 30th 2009 8:02PM
@elstor: You can't hearth out if you've fallen through the world. You're falling, and thus moving, though you're not going anywhere. I've had that happen to me before. Sucks. I logged off the toon and played another while I waited for a GM to move me.
With that said...I'm now planning on planting one of my characters inside the Coliseum and waiting for the patch. =)
Dazaras Jul 30th 2009 8:52PM
@Elvendude
have someone summon you either with a warlock or a dungeon stone. Probably much faster than a GM queue.
vazhkatsi Jul 30th 2009 10:41PM
@Dazaras the thing about falling through the world is that generally it bugs out the rest of the ground too, so you wind up hitting the bottom level of the world, and falling to your death, then your ghost falls and dies infinitely as well.
artifex Jul 30th 2009 11:58PM
If you get stuck in a wall, you don't have to wait for a GM; there's an auto-unstick feature under the help that will try to move you.
Also, they stick a timer on you when you're dead, you don't fall forever anymore. When I jumped from the unfinished tunnel that comes out above Ironforge Gates, I fell and fell and fell, and eventually died in the air. It gave me a chance to release, but I sat and waited, watching while my body continued moving southeast. Eventually the release timer went off and my ghost wound up at the graveyard near the Gates. My corpse? Right in front of them.

I'd expect blizz to run a script during the patch rollout that would port all players in the area back to whereever their hearthstone is set to. At least that's what I would do
and that's what Blizz does all the time on laggy servers right now, especially when you're in Ulduar, fighting Leviathan in hard mode and you're only 100k HP away from your firstkill *grrrr*
Loadead Jul 30th 2009 6:07PM
Thunder Bluff and Mulgore are the cow levels.

"Daily" my ass.
Alex Ziebart Jul 30th 2009 7:03PM
Adam and I have had a *lot* on our plates the last few weeks. It'll go back to daily very soon. Tomorrow will have a 'guest' writer, who I am pretty sure everyone universally adores around here.
Adam Holisky Jul 30th 2009 8:53PM
Alex and I work a ton on the site, with many responsibilities behind the scenes. With patch 3.2 coming around soon, we have a lot of things that we have to do in order to make sure our content is ready for the absolute flood of visitors when the patch releases.
This means that daily tasks get pushed aside for other, more important, things.
But I'm glad you feel so strongly about this column being daily.
However next time you can approach your grievances more maturely.
Nerill Jul 30th 2009 10:32PM
Ya know, Adam and Alex, (et. el.) you're doing a great job! I think most people here think that and that's why they keep coming back. I love the game and your blog makes it even more enjoyable. Keep up the great work and try not to sweat the whiners - I don't think they understand how hard doing something like this is day-to-day.
DragonFireKai Jul 30th 2009 6:08PM
There is too a cow level. It's called a raid on Thunder Bluff.
jbodar Jul 30th 2009 6:43PM
Ohhh, if only the TB NPCs would spam /moo as they died...
pikachu2999 Jul 30th 2009 6:11PM
You can speed up resting time by staying in a safe spot like an Inn or capital City. It shows Zzz... on your char screen instead of level.
Docp Jul 30th 2009 6:35PM
Also another point about today's Queue, if you did get stuck in the coliseum why not just hearth out or use the auto-unstuck feature rather than wait for a GM.
Turtlehead Jul 30th 2009 9:43PM
Those Zzzs mean you are GETTING rest time, not that it's increasing the rate at which you get it. No Zzz, no rest being accumulated.
Slartibart Jul 30th 2009 10:31PM
Turtlehead, you're wrong. You can accumulate "rest" in the wild. You'll gain it at 25% the rate you would in an inn or city however.
