I usually Charge first, which will not only cover the distance and remove a shield from your opponent, but the charge doesn't end with impact. You'll blow past the target, still at sprint-speed. I turn in a tight circle and throw Shieldbreaker as soon as I come around to re-face the target. Then close to melee and start busting him up. I rarely lose anymore.

This is what I used to do, then I realized you can turn in midair, essentially moving backwards away from your opponent at charge speed. Charge through them, jump, spin and throw a lance, land and have enough charge speed left to get back into melee range.
