WoW Moviewatch: Mercy of the Sea
One of the mainstays at BlizzCon is the machinima contest – talented artists submit their movie ahead of the convention in hopes of winning fame and prizes. This year's BlizzCon is no different, and we're sure to see some great videos during the largest gathering of WoW players outside of Azeroth. Over the next few days let's take a look back at some of the winners and runner ups of last year's movie competition.
Mercy of the Sea was the Runner-Up in the Action/Adventure category of last year's machinima contest. It's a pretty big video, clocking it about 23 minutes. Mercy of the Sea is an incredibly ambitious movie. The sweeping plot focuses on High Priestess Elunari, who must rescue her child from the Arch Druid. There are twists and heartstrings to be plucked throughout the movie, and it's totally worth your time to watch it.
What really makes Mercy of the Sea exceptional is its great voice acting and polished visuals. The story could have been relayed a little more quickly, but I think a lot of the pacing was purposefully chosen for dramatic tension. I don't know anyone who disagrees that this is a quality movie, though I think at least a few might wish for it to move a little faster. Since its debut, however, I've thought of Mercy of the Sea as being one of the best plot-driven machinima I've seen.

I joined a wow rp realm just to see what it was like. Created my toon and headed up to Ironforge, expecting to see a bunch of nerds talking in dwarf/elf speak over trade channel. To my surprise I noticed nothing different about anything...the chat was the same - not rp at all.

Did not really like it.
Waaaay too much details, too little background information (it took me a while to realize that her HUSBAND was NOT the FATHER of her CHILD.... just say she had an affair, pure and simple) to process it or give a damn about the people involved.
Also, the story was totally not in sync with the Lore imo. The Night Elves conquering pretty much all the world? Nature helping them do whatever abominable things they did? Tons of evil druids? Night Elves making hefty use of Draenei technology, prisons etc.
It was not bad, I just did not like it. Tales of the Past was also somewhat loony, elevating the creator and his friends to the most important persons in Azeroth but at least it in line with the Lore for the most part.
Maybe I'm just too fixated on the Lore to enjoy Machinimas like this one *shrug*.

Am I the only one who watched the two elf-balls of light collide and thought, "So -that's- where moonkins came from!" ?

Ugh... just... ugh. It was aggonizing just watching this. Lots of close up face shots that would sometimes be too close, dialogue went by too fast, voice acting has no sense of emotion, and the filters and effects made everything look horrid. Worst of all, the story is just lame. Night Elves taking over Azeroth? Please..
