WoWathon for Child's Play
Have you heard about WoWathon? Three gamers have been playing WoW since August 1, broadcasting live in order to raise money for the charity, Child's Play. They are streaming live right now on Ustream and have been for 54 hours as of this writing. Starting from level 1, they have leveled their characters to 35 so far, all while responding to chatters.
They are not account sharing and have the blessing of their realm's GM, for those of you who are worried about them going against the ToS.
Child's Play is the charity that the guys at Penny Arcade put together to provide toys, games, books and cash to sick kids in children's hospitals. The WoWathon team's goal is to reach $5000 in fundrasing for the charity and are currently near $2300. If you wish to donate to help them reach their goal, please go to their website and click on the Chipin button.
We are talking to them now, so stay tuned to WoW.com for an interview with the team.

15 minutes between articles? Can I guess this is some sort of a mistake?

WoW.com usually staggers their posts every hour. My guess is that since it's about a charitable event it's jumped the usual delay.

Awesome. Just clicked over to hear them find out about getting featured here. Good luck guys!

WoWInsider does not like e-hearts!
So e-hearts for Alex, Jacob, Kelly, Elyse, and Janet.

Account sharing trio who gets ran through instances by level 80 players for hours. I heard there's more than one area of each level range to play in. I wish you would have done more research into this group than that, WoW.com staff members.
Should have plugged the charity, they are worthy of advertisement, not this group.

They only get run through an instance when they're getting griefed by people while they're questing. You must not have been watching very much.

What a terrible and thoughtless comment. These guys have been followed and harassed by children who feel it's entertaining to farm quest mobs ahead of them for almost 99% of the time they quest outside of instances. They are forced to head into instances because it's that or nothing. Do your research.
I bet there hasn't been DKs rolled on a server in this quantity since WotLK release.

I love seeing video games used to raise money for charity! I've been trying to think of ways to do so using WoW. On Xbox we have cash tournaments and all the proceeds (used to, I don't play Xbox anymore) go to an organization called "Charity Gamers". If anyone has any ideas on how else money could be raised through WoW for charity please reply to this comment or post on the (newly created) forums at http://VforVicarious.guildomatic.com please! Or if anyone could point me in the direction of a previous WoW.com article that has featured something that I am talking about I would greatly appreciate it! Sry for any grammar/spelling or if something doesn't make sense I'm at work dodging (like a good tank) my boss and writing this on my phone so sry again and ty for any feedback! Love you guys and hope this group continues to raise money for a good cause!!!

After I clicked "Post" I thought about how many people already use WoW as a means to raise money for themselves or corporate businesses, and how Blizz is very against others capitalizing on their product. If anyone could get details on how this group contacted and recieved the OK fro
Blizz (was it strictly through the realm GM?) that would also be much appreciated! I've heard storys of rude GMs and others that just straight up don't really care about dealing with players, but I've personally dealt (in game) with at least a dozen GMs on Stormscale US and all of them were always polite and proffesional and willing to help with anything, so hearing about this group has me fired up to start raising money for charity in game lol. Ty for taking the time to read this! Sry for any mistakes!

I'm not trying to flame or anything so please forgive me if I don't understand how two people playing wow convinces people to donate money to this cause? Wouldn't people donate regardless if it were a good cause? Just a little curious. Thanks in advance.
dogtraner20 Aug 3rd 2009 6:06PM
ok first there are three of them and they are playing in shifts and that is why they are taking time out of there lifes to do this
anonymouse Aug 3rd 2009 6:14PM
It's like Jerry Lewis telethon. The main purpose is to draw attention to the cause.
Tamednan Aug 3rd 2009 6:06PM
I'm tired just watching them.
Luke Aug 3rd 2009 6:17PM
I can't imagine doing anything for consecutive days like that, no matter how much I enjoy it. I hope those guys don't hate WoW after they're done with this.
Marty Aug 3rd 2009 6:20PM
This is SO friggin boring.
Anything would have been better than what they're currently doing.
Someone to give commentary and talk to the chat (ie whoever's playing the mage just spamming a /assist shaman fireball macro and reading chat) would've done wonders to help the chat want to stick around and watch. Doing silly things in real life for donations, (someone donated 200 for them to sing a song; THEY REFUSED TO SING IT AND THEN BANNED THE DONATOR FROM THE CHAT.) or maybe taking a really gay lore approach that would also attract a different kind of viewership where you read all the quest dialogue and NPC banter in your best fantasy voice, or something. That's stuff I came up with in 2 minutes and it's still more planning than they put into this.
This kind of brutal incompetence isn't helping.
