Faction restriction on PvP servers lifted [Updated]

Is this an intended change? It doesn't appear on any patch notes or blue post, so we're not so sure. A change of this magnitude usually merits a Blizzard announcement of some sort. In this case, expect realms to undergo some form of downtime in the near future to address the issue. So if you've ever had words you wanted to share with players of the opposite faction - some invectives or even forbidden love - heck, this is your time to do it. If you want to participate in some arbitrage ala PvE realms, that might be possible, too. Though don't look at me when Blizzard shuts everything down and all your Gold disappears in Steamwheedle limbo.
However, there's also a good chance this is an intended feature - after all, they did announce faction changes, right? Disabling the restriction will allow players to switch factions on PvP realms without any problems. Since Blizzard has broken down traditional barriers in the past - from realm transfers to PvE-to-PvP restrictions - this change isn't out of the realm of possibility. Stay tuned as we learn more!
UPDATE: It's been CONFIRMED. The change is intended! There is no longer a faction restriction on PvP realms in preparation for the faction change service, according to Eyonix over at the official forums.
Thanks to Jon for the heads up!

I'm guessing so you can't kill whoever you want whenever you want, assuming you have high level characters of both factions on a server.
Let me give you an example. That druid ninja your staff? Switch over and kill him, and camp his corpse.

Bad idea jeans. Prepare for a bunch of level 1s rolled for the sole purpose of yelling at the opposite faction member that just ganked you.
Butthurt alts.
Graham Ribchester Aug 4th 2009 10:13PM
BUT YOU CAN DO THAT ALREADY ¬_¬
Doesn't everyone have two accounts :p
It's a good change since people can just create a free 10 day trial if they want to do a /who to see who is in a certain zone already. The change means that those who can just afford 1 account can do just the same as those with 2 accounts already do.
Gíant Aug 4th 2009 10:09PM
Not only that but you can now log-in as a level 1, do a /who 'zone' and you now know everyone in the zone. Then just use a target macro and fly around. Can even pick on easy targets thanks to armory showing gear.
Graham Ribchester Aug 5th 2009 12:41AM
You can do that anyway just by creating a 10 day trial account, so it's nothing new.

The only addon that works is questhelper not cartographer or anything is this 'cus of the bugs?
slyman.is.god Aug 4th 2009 11:20PM
this is cool O: now I could play horde and send me gold via a neutral AH and see the other side of the force :D and my girlfriend can finally roll a Belf and drool, so yeah, this seems pretty good :D
Eternauta Aug 5th 2009 12:29AM
Pardon my ignorance, but.... how does that work exactly? How do you send gold via an AH?
Graham Ribchester Aug 5th 2009 7:03AM
Nope, you still can't bid on your own auctions dude. :p
You will still need a second account or a friend to do that.
Richard Aug 5th 2009 1:45AM
You can put a grey item (or whatever you want) up on the Neutral AH for a large amount of gold, then purchase it with the opposing faction toon, essentially sending gold from the buying toon to the selling toon, although you lose 5% due to the AH cut.
Bonksy Aug 5th 2009 4:32AM
Isn't it 20% for the neutral AH?
Skya Aug 5th 2009 4:36AM
It's actually 15% in the neutral auction houses, it's only 5% for faction specific auction houses.
slyman.is.god Aug 5th 2009 11:06AM
well, me and my girlfriend play together, so she put a gray item on the AH and I bought it with my account. Of course u loose some money in the process, but she's getting 50g and that's more than enough to start playing a new toon from scratch. So, it works :D thx blizz!

other undoc. patch notes:
to get Rested in Sepulcher Inn, you now have to be on the stairs, instead of just under the awning
the Blasted Lands portal is at least also in Exodar, I'm figuring that means it's everywhere
