Faction restriction on PvP servers lifted [Updated]

Is this an intended change? It doesn't appear on any patch notes or blue post, so we're not so sure. A change of this magnitude usually merits a Blizzard announcement of some sort. In this case, expect realms to undergo some form of downtime in the near future to address the issue. So if you've ever had words you wanted to share with players of the opposite faction - some invectives or even forbidden love - heck, this is your time to do it. If you want to participate in some arbitrage ala PvE realms, that might be possible, too. Though don't look at me when Blizzard shuts everything down and all your Gold disappears in Steamwheedle limbo.
However, there's also a good chance this is an intended feature - after all, they did announce faction changes, right? Disabling the restriction will allow players to switch factions on PvP realms without any problems. Since Blizzard has broken down traditional barriers in the past - from realm transfers to PvE-to-PvP restrictions - this change isn't out of the realm of possibility. Stay tuned as we learn more!
UPDATE: It's been CONFIRMED. The change is intended! There is no longer a faction restriction on PvP realms in preparation for the faction change service, according to Eyonix over at the official forums.
Thanks to Jon for the heads up!

Heh, noticed that too

That "bug" is actually an isopod.
MechChef Aug 5th 2009 9:32AM
So fancy name for sea-bug. Got it.
Zach Aug 5th 2009 9:35AM
The term 'bug' can refer to any arthropod (except most crustaceans), such as the Isopod shown above.
Dragoniel Aug 5th 2009 5:38AM
Personally I don't like the change.
It's more convenient, yes. But it's, bound to bring multiple problems, from ganked people nerdrage to cheated honor farming.
We'll see how this plays out, but as for now I don't like it.
Emophia Aug 5th 2009 5:44AM
Awesome, so gonna go camp my friends trying to level on my server now.
Nige Aug 5th 2009 5:52AM
Does anyone know if the BOA items i get with my Horde main would move over to a Alliance toon on the same realm? Or are BOA items just per faction?
Thanks.
Anaughtybear Aug 5th 2009 6:06AM
This seems like a big mistake on Blizzard's part. From my limited experiences today, it just makes it possible for old enemies to reconnect in a new and personal way. People that ganked someone in the past are getting verbally abused and need bigger ignore lists. Other people are just showing up to troll the major cities, looking for a the attention they so desperately crave. No good can come of this.
Twotoe Aug 5th 2009 7:42AM
I seem to remember that you only gain honor from killing someone 3 times in a day, this still in effect?
MooNinja Aug 5th 2009 8:24AM
Who cares if someone talks badly to you after you gank them !??!!? Aren't you adults with ignore functionality ? I would much rather not have to change servers to play both factions, and see all of the content available for the money I pay.
IMHO, the defense of harrassment has been proven as more bluster than substance, people that get angry enough to yell at another are already making accounts devoted to that, and it almost never happens on servers where it is allowed. Yes, there is world pvp on normal servers, probably more than on pvp servers where I've been playing since launch.
Vicious Chicken Aug 5th 2009 8:27AM
Great. I can create a low level hordie and add all the people who've obnoxiously ganked me in the past to my friends list and hunt them down like dogs? Sweet. The troll that I left alone to finish the Argent alchemy daily who then attacked me when I started mine? You're first baby! Come to pappa.
Dmiri Aug 5th 2009 8:41AM
My question is this, if we are going to be allowed faction changes, how will that affect Faction Specific Reputation, Mounts and Items?
evipen Aug 5th 2009 9:56AM
I also think it takes away from the idea of the PVP server. Two (or more) sides going at it, never really safe. The lore can be damned for why they're fighting, but for the feeling of the server. I've played on Normal, RP and currently a PVP server, and I really get more of a feeling of camaraderie when I'm playing. We all have each others back kind of thing, now it feels like that won't be there as much because people will be able to just switch back and forth as they please...
Mark Aug 5th 2009 10:37AM
Eventually they'll lift the restriction on trading with horde, auction houses of both sides will become tied together, and one day both factions will even be able to talk to each other. You will say no way, it will never happen, but at this point I'm not putting anything past them. So those are my predictions, just wait and see. :D
Sparta Aug 5th 2009 10:37AM
On beta, you have can Elyos and Asmodian on the same realm.
So, yes they do.
John Aug 5th 2009 12:35PM
Wow, you pvp guys are so funny! I'm sure all the pve'ers are giggling now at your adorable worrying. And your AH noobishness is amazing, I had no idea people on pvp servers would be so in the dark on that.
Seriously though, stop worrying, the sky is not falling. The factions are not brought any closer, your faction pride will be intact.. You just have more play options now.
Hardly anyone bothers to make level 1 alts to harrass the opposing side, though it does happen occasionally. It's just not a big deal. They're no worse than the trade channel trolls already on your side.
tahlatria Aug 5th 2009 1:13PM
Has anyone heard of the timeline on the release yet? I have a horde hunter with a bank full of boe's that's dying to get a make over!!
Cheezburgler Aug 5th 2009 1:22PM
i wat'd
Mark Paquette Aug 5th 2009 2:03PM
Does this increase the amount of alts we can have / server?
Jonny Splash Aug 5th 2009 2:10PM
I just tried a paid transfer from a PVE server to a PVP server of an alliance toon, I have a horde toon already on the PVP server.
it was denied
