There are no patch notes available yet; however, they will no doubt be made available within the next few hours. But really, the patch notes are not going to deviate a terrible amount from the PTR patch notes, so this evening is a good time to familiarize yourself with everything.
The patch will also bring with it some rather significant extended maintenance as well.

I think you are wrong and the patch is not tomorrow.
1. PTR is still up
2. They are doing the hardware upgrades for the servers some of the servers and makes no sense to do a patch upgrade and hardware on the same day.

Please, educate yourself.
When 3.1 hit, the PTR was still up. Nowhere on the maintenance says that it's a hardware upgrade. It's a reconfiguration, basically meaning they are going to go through and re-adjust all the settings to make sure they are running optimally.
Why? Hmm, it could be because of an incoming patch.

Some servers got recalibrated, probably the same ones that are always being complained about lag. You know, the one's that needed it.
The saying "Don't fix what isn't broke" comes into play here.

If they're just going to "re-adjust all the settings to make sure they are running optimally." and not a full blown upgrade, then why can't they do it for all the realms? Patch days are hectic and often unplayable on ALL realms. I'd take the extra hour or 2 of maintaince for a bit of extra security.

Hardware reconfiguration=hardware upgrades, yourself describe it as upgrades because you say they are re-adjusting and recalibrating things which are all under the meaning of upgrade when used to describe computer terms. You are just nitpicking to be a jerk since you start off with an insult.
The hardware adjustments are not because of the patch and have no releation to them but are because of the lag and instance cap issues. They are slowly doing modification to each server cluster (each battlegroup is usually on a cluster so thats why its done by battle group).
And no the 3.1 ptr was not up when the 3.1 patch went live. That point is moot now because the 3.2 ptr just went off line a couple of minutes ago.

Am i not correct in remembering that last week a whole different set of realms had extended maintenance? Could that have not been prep for the patch?

Nope don't feel stupid at all. There is nothing wrong with being wrong and nothing wrong with the facts at the time not adding up. Until the ptr went down I didn't think it was going to be released today.

Is it just me or are wow servers dead atm, its a few hours before patch, I can't login, wowarmory cannot load.

Good and bad...I need to decide on a faction.
Playing for 2 years and having like 20 different high-level chars on both horde and alliance and still being unable to decide; really puts a damper on the whole "Down with Arthas!" theme.

Sweeeeeeeeeeet. PTR just shut down, another part of evidence that patch could be coming "today". I'll be interested to see when I wake up this morning when I'm done with my morning jog.

Heh, never been around on many patch days, have you? You'll be lucky if it's up by dinner time, I don't care what time zone you live in.
