WoW Moviewatch: Fruit of Elune
One of the mainstays at BlizzCon is the machinima contest – talented artists submit their movie ahead of the convention in hopes of winning fame and prizes. This year's BlizzCon is no different, and we're sure to see some great videos during the largest gathering of WoW players outside of Azeroth. Over the next few days let's take a look back at some of the winners and runner ups of last year's movie competition.
Fruit of Elune won a Runner-up prize in last year's BlizzCon machinima contests. Maybe I'm just a fanboy, but I really liked the commercial parody. And, perhaps, I was pleased to see some lighthearted mocking of Night Elves. Night Elves tends to be a stoic, far too serious race. We could all use to have a little fun poked at the followers of Elune.
Last year, the big talk about this video had to do with a brief "wifebeater" joke. The joke was clearly sourced in a common nickname for a sleeveless men's t-shirt. I think the high quality of this video was overlooked due to the discussion about that bit. This is an important object lesson for many authors and artists; regardless of whether you think the joke is funny, that kind of material often "overwhelms" a video. It tends to become all that people remember about the film. Unless the point of your movie is to address that kind of controversial issue, you're probably better off skipping it.

If we can vote a comment up or down, we should be able to vote a IP ban up or down imo.

The voiceover got very annoying after just a minute. The creator went a bit overboard with all the ragdoll stuff, the movements of the night elves were entirely unrealistic and excessive, it just wasn't fun to watch.
The writing, aside from the entirely out of place and unnecessary wife-beating joke, was pretty good. Just the way it was presented and delivered ruined the video for me. I can understand that it takes a lot of work and skill to produce something like this, and I appreciate that, but it was still pretty awful.

''entirely unrealistic and excessive''
That's the whole point, you tool. How old are you?

I could definitely have gone without the picture that accompanies this post being the first thing I saw this morning. In fact, I could have gone without seeing that picture, ever.

Loved the Katamari opening and theme in the background! Hilarious :)

This needs to be made into a real product line, immediately.

The wifebeater joke was hilarious. Much better (intelligent) non-sequitur than the '2 guys' video a while back.

I'm surprised that it even got a runners up.

I paused on the Tooltip that showed the stats on "Fruit of Elune"... shows it has a blue socket. Wouldn't a "Green" socket been funnier?? LOL in my opinion.
synergy24 Aug 4th 2009 1:16PM
are u serious? if you dont get why the jock socket is blue then you fail :)
epik.phailure.gamer Aug 4th 2009 1:19PM
Yes, Yes I do get the "blue" socket joke. Since you didn't read the whole post, let me say it again. LOL IN MY OPINION!
And as for fail
My name is Epik Phailure.

That's a horrible idea. How long would it take for wow.com to become the voice of dull people being agreeable?
epik.phailure.gamer Aug 4th 2009 1:07PM
The thought just occured to me... Do they come in boxers too?
Unsavory Aug 4th 2009 1:18PM
Doubt it.
