Holy paladins give up AoE healing utility for those big 18k Holy Light crits. Every healing class has its strengths and weaknesses. I'd love for paladins to have meaningful AoE/HoT healing, but it's not in the cards. Sometimes you just have to accept the limitations of your class or roll an alt (I have a resto druid as well).
