StarCraft II delayed to 2010
In an official press release, Blizzard announced today that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, the first installment of the Starcraft II trilogy, previously indicated to be released in the last quarter of this year, is delayed to the first half of 2010.
The release cited the massive amount of work necessary to overhaul Blizzard's online matchmaking service, Battle.net, as the main culprit for the delay. Since the new BNet will be part of every new Blizzard game from here on in -- including World of Warcraft, as players with BNet accounts have seen -- it's vital that the service be working properly before the game's release.
StarCraft II was never officially dated -- only an on-the-sly indication -- and multiple financial sites have reported the now-official release date as the first half of 2010 following this announcement and Activision-Blizzard's quarterly financial report.
What does this mean for the WoW player? Well, it means that if you were expecting the focus of BlizzCon, or one of the focuses of BlizzCon, to be a StarCraft II release date, you'd be incorrect.
Gives you pause when you consider what else they could be announcing instead, eh?

Blizzard is delaying the game to work on the Battle.net network code for StarCraft II.
Remember, all of this is done to prevent people from playing it on the LAN so every copy you load up must be verified by Battle.net in order to play.
The game is finished, just pure greed at this point in the works.

Well at least if Bnet doesn't work, you can always just hop over on your local LAN and.... oh wait.

Yep, that one is a dealbreaker for me. I'm not going to play an RTS where playing with my friends is dependent on another party's uptime/latency. The majority of RTS play I do is LAN gaming, so I really hope they reconsider this one. If your two regular games are WoW and SCII, and the B.net Authentication system goes down again, you are without both, in one fell swoop. I'd forgive the delay, if I didn't care about the LAN thing or if they changed their position on it. Blizz has a pretty good track record for make sure things are polished before they're released (not to say that tweaks and fixes don't happen after the fact), so if they think they need more time, I say let them have it.

One of these days I'll learn to summarize and be concise. Sorry for the usual (for me) verbose wall of text.

Hell, why didn't I see this coming? :p
And about Diablo 3, don't make me laugh. 2011? That's when we'll see the next expansion for WoW. Diablo 3 will likely be out sometime in 2013.

I fully support further delays of Starcraft 2 if it means more development and focus is being spent on WoW.
