Phat Loot Phriday: Marrowstrike
Name: Marrowstrike (Wowhead, Thottbot, Armory)
Type: Epic Polearm
Damage/Speed: 570-856 / 3.50 (212.3 DPS)
Attributes:
- +106 Agility, +101 Stamina
- Yellow socket (nice for +Hit gems, though you can put whatever you want in there) with a +4 Agility socket bonus
- Improves crit strike rating by 57, attack power by 154, and armor penetration by 60
- Item level 219 puts it right in line with regular Ulduar, though this baby is available from a 5-man, the new Trial of the Champion. In short, it's in there so you can jump up a few levels and get with the rest of the program. Why you been slacking on your gear, man?
- Oh wait, what? I got this last night and it was a huge upgrade for me? So I'm the slacker? Ah. I see. Never mind then.
And once you do get it, don't forget to socket and enchant it as well. If you're lucky with the Fishing dailies, there's a nice epic gem in there, otherwise you'll have to visit your local JC.
Getting Rid of It: If you're doing any amount of raiding, you'll probably get rid of it pretty soon -- there's a nice upgrade in Heroic Ulduar, and if you're doing any of the new content at all, there's plenty of upgrades to be found. When you're done, you can sell it off to vendors for 26g 13s 41c, or disenchant it into an Abyss Crystal.

I lost this little weapon to a Death Knight tank that had Worldcarver already, me with The Undeath Carrier.
Ooooooh, the raaaaaaaaaage.

I tanked the new 5 man on my DK and got this. Dude in group cried about it. I was tired of changing the rune on my Worldcarver.

I'm not sure what class the weapon is really for, but frankly, do not want.
Might as well have called it cucumberstrike. Rename it something like sorrowstrike and I will be happy to wear it.

Based on the given weapon dps this polearm should have 2202.2 Feral AP for druids
Trouser Aug 7th 2009 8:19PM
Pro-tip: Druids can use polearms too, and this one is nice for them as well.
hunters...

I haven't seen this yet since Tuesday, but I'm looking forward to it. I use Twisted Visage as a Survival hunter, but the amount of armor penetration instead of hit will make this to be a good upgrade. I'll stick an agility gem in there.
Thomolithic Aug 8th 2009 3:53AM
Wrong! SV hunter DO NOT need arpen. Respec and try again yeah?
Dzur Aug 8th 2009 11:02AM
This is exactly why blizz fails. The twisted visage is close to best in slot for a feral druid, but you as a hunter rolled on it, and would replace it with a lower iLevel item. Why? Because for you, it's a stat stick, and for druids, it's a feral ap upgrade of almost 500 ap over naxx level gear. TY for rolling a huntard. Pathetic.

Twisted Visage is close to best in slot for Hunters, too, and that "stat stick" provides a huge DPS upgrade over lower-quality items.
If your guild wants to offer upgrades that are numerically better, point for point, they should give it to a feral druid. If your guild is not retarded and realizes that XT will probably die a few times in the future, just give the damn thing to whoever wins the roll. All this QQ over Hunters taking 2Hers is incredibly tedious.

Awww poor baby, did mean old blizzard take away druid only staffs and now you have competition? Deal with it. TY for rolling a druid. Pathetic.

@Thomolithic: you're totally, horribly, and completely wrong.
In fact, most things have shown that with a sufficient amount of ArP on a hunter's gear there's a sweet spot where it actually becomes useful to gem for it and hit the %100 ArP cap (which is around 580 rating or something like that).
Even further, if you'd notice that the vast majority of hunter gear from Ulduar actually has ArP on it... you'd kinda start to think it's maybe useful. Maybe. I mean there is the Huntard stereotype for a reason i suppose, maybe it's because of you.
Even further down that road, at or near the point where you cap out on ArP (easily done with Ulduar 25 gear and some hard mode pieces) it actually becomes smarter to switch to a Marksman spec to boost your dps even further.
So yes technically you're right. A survival hunter doesn't "need" ArP, but they're going to get it anyway. And at the point where they've got ArP in their gear, they're probably going to want to switch to Marks.
But I'm sure you're happy rocking out with your Spirit Beast and Beast Mastery spec, so why in the world would you even care to know your class?

'Item level 219 puts it right in line with regular Ulduar'
false, it's Ilevel 213. in line with 25 naxx or a KT drop... it's an interesting comparison between this one and the staff of the plaguehound for which is better for a hunter or a feral, for that matter... anyone have some insight?
Westane Aug 8th 2009 7:27PM
FALSE! It's an ilvl219, I know, I have one.
Casey Aug 7th 2009 8:37PM
There has been some confusion about the iLvl of the drops in H ToC. At least according to the tooltip, these are level 219, not 213 as was reported on mmo-Champion and elsewhere.
It would be nice if we could clear this up for sure - though I think the fact that Edge of Ruin has weapon damage parallel to Death's Bite rather than Ironsoul suggests that 213 is more likely.
Rai Aug 7th 2009 10:45PM
I can confirm that the gear that drops in heroic 5-man is level 219.
Shoryu Aug 8th 2009 2:55AM
heres a tip for all of you who think these weapons are lvl 213 and 203 dps, go to your wow folder, delete your chache folder and restart the game. youll notice they are lvl 219 and do 212.3 dps. how do i know? i have both on my warrior.
WoWie Zowie Aug 7th 2009 8:32PM
it looks awesome =)
maybe i'm just partial to polearms
Nick S Aug 8th 2009 1:52PM
I had another item with the same model back in BC... not too many people used it (since it was pretty poorly itemized) but it looked really cool.
Lokasenna Aug 7th 2009 8:32PM
This dropped for my DK the other day, and all I have to say is:
FINALLY, something to replace the Saliva Corroded Pike I've been tanking with for six months.
