A simple way to Get Kraken!
A Youtube user by the name of psychorabbitt left a comment on our Get Kraken! video with a pretty sweet tip for getting the quest done easier. It was so simple and obvious that I feel really, really dumb for not thinking of it. If you have a video card that does the whole "you can't see the monsters until you're already flying past them" thing while doing this quest, you can just make yourself a macro.
#showtooltip Flaming Spears
/tar North Sea Kraken
/tar Kvaldir Deepcaller
/use Flaming Spears
Update: Kittahsmash from the comments below posted a macro that works quite a bit better.
#showtooltip Flaming Spears
/tar North Sea Kraken
/use Flaming Spears
/tar Kvaldir Deepcaller
/use Flaming Spears
Spam away, and your quest is done! Honestly, I probably won't use it, because I like the hunt-and-peck of trying to find and target the mobs you need on bombing quests. Just spamming a macro would be way less fun for me personally. If you're not such a fan of bombing quest or your rig isn't very cooperative during this one, sure, use the macro all you want.
Yeah, I know, obvious macro is obvious... but hopefully I'm not the only one that didn't think of it. Boy would I feel dumb.

that macro is pretty sweet

I have one virtually the same for Thrusting Hodir's Spear. Simply out of my laziness to manually target a drake and get myself in range. :D

is that the onyxia hide backpack ur still sportin?
Alex Ziebart Aug 8th 2009 6:36PM
Hmm, it could be! I'll have to check later tonight. That's my Paladin alt, so her bags are certainly not as up-to-date as my Priest main's bags.
It just might be the Ony Hide.
Jugmaster Aug 8th 2009 6:40PM
lol i think it is. that bag before BC was amazing.
SithLlenniuq Aug 8th 2009 6:53PM
Noob Question... what program do you use to record movies with?
Alex Ziebart Aug 8th 2009 6:57PM
I used Fraps and Sony Vegas. I'm new to both, which is why the video comes across as pretty... clunky and unprofessional. Because it is! It was basically my 2nd time ever using Sony Vegas, and probably my third time using Fraps. I haven't found the 'sweet spot' of video settings for recording yet, but those are the programs I used.

So you have to have the crusader title to get this quest? And that means you have to become valiants in all the cities? Is that right?
Gennifurfur Aug 8th 2009 7:46PM
To be crusader, you have about a month of dailies ahead of you (if you haven't started.) You have to become a champion of all 5 factions. 5 days of dailies each there. There are 3 or 4 days of dailies to get to that point.
You have to be exalted with all 5 horde factions. You have to be exalted with the Argent Crusade.
To do the sunreaver or whatever the alliance equivalent is daily quests, you also have to be exalted with them.
It's a fair bit of work if you haven't started toward it yet. However, if you get there, you can do 9 dailies a day which go by pretty fast, net you 10 champions seals and a lot of gold. I'll be doing them every day until Northrend becomes obsolete.

Awesome. Thats what I wanted to know. Luckily I am a little over half way done. WooT!

I like to keep my quests entertaining =D
with the addition of icons on the quest tracking, quests like this no longer require me to put the items on my bars... but since I cannot for the life of my video card make mobs appear fast enough, I just drop down on the ships on my way to the island up north and kill the required deepcallers. then do the quest and just bomb the krakken!
It's pretty neat since they don't aggro unless you hit them, so no worry about overpulling the mobs that spawn immediately after you kill em
Gennifurfur Aug 9th 2009 11:17PM
I've only got this quest once in the 5 days of dailies since the patch came out. I didn't think of a macro, but I'll probably use this. I just try to fly through the dailies as fast as possible to get on to doing something else.
I like how all the new dailies are pretty quick and painless. The only exception is getting sent to Storm Peaks, although with an epic flyer, that isn't even too bad.
Flyte Aug 8th 2009 8:17PM
I'm not 100% sure you even have to target the kraken. I was doing it today and forgot the target and the spears went right to him! Or at least I think they did.
Kevin McCreery Aug 8th 2009 8:21PM
heres another helpful macro that basically makes every one of the argent daily quest items put into 1 button
/use Mistcaller's Charm
/use Confessor's Prayer Book
/use Fresh Chum
/use Light-Blessed Relic
/use Earthshaker Drum
/use Captured Kvaldir Banner
If you in the right place and/or targetting the correct npc the correct item will be used
Kittahsmash Aug 8th 2009 11:38PM
This macro didn't entirely work for me.
#showtooltip Flaming Spears
/tar North Sea Kraken
/use Flaming Spears
/tar Kvaldir Deepcaller
/use Flaming Spears
Did, however. My first time through, this macro completely skipped the krakens, even if I targetted a kraken first and hit the macro. It would always target the deepcaller guys and throw the spear at them.
Robert Aug 9th 2009 7:32AM
Your macro works much better. The one in the actual post doesn't really work.
Bullseyed Aug 10th 2009 1:19PM
^This.
The Krakken won't always be in range for /target, but the deepcallers will be. Therefore, you have to put the deepcallers first in the macro if you use the one from the OP, or the Krakken first if you use the macro listed here. You want the macro to follow the following logic:
If (Krakken = exists, in range) Then hit Krakken
Else (If (Deepcaller = exists, in range) Then hit Deepcaller)).

3 Cheers for the creator of THIS macro!
Kittahsmash Aug 11th 2009 12:05PM
Woot. First 'blue' comment. I also got mentioned in the main text of this blog post. I feel special now :D
On a different note, I apologize for the bad grammar in my original post. I was mostly asleep when I posted it, and really didn't go back through and see if it made as much sense as it sounded at the time I typed it :P

Heya Kittah, it's Domi from GH. You're internet famous now.
