WoW Moviewatch: Million Miles From Home
According to Baron Soosdon, the creator of Million Miles From Home, this movie has been sitting on his hard drive since Spring last year. It had been intended to be sure for Olibith's Never Stay Tuned series. However, as is often the case with things like this, the good Baron lost interest in the piece. He wandered off to more engaging pastures. He's finally decided to release the piece as is, even though it doesn't meet all of his current standards for Soosdon machinima.
I think the sad story of Million Miles From Home and its creation is kind of a shame, because this snippet has captured my imagination like few other videos. I adore the retro sci-fi feel of a pink-haired Gnome and friend zooming through space on a pair of rocket mounts. It tugs on my heart-strings and sense of child-like wonder, and I find myself rooting for the two characters with a feeling of glee and expectation. I don't know how it would end if Baron had decided to finish his work on the video, but I can't help but speculate.
The Baron does say his protagonists will likely come back around in the future, and I hope they maintain the same sense of excitement and exploration. For all that Million Miles From Home may be unfinished, it totally won my heart.

And then, there was rickrolling.

I hope Selserene releases a new video soon. I keep checking this moviewatch hoping to see her, I was really enjoying the 'In for a Penny' series...

Million Miles from Home sounds like it is a sad song. Hey don't ya'll think I'd be nice if WoW gave every class its own theme music? That would be awesome!

While I'm not a fan of that genre of music, I found myself completely wrapped up in this video. It's very well put together and very imaginitive. Well done.

God i love that song!
Shame the video never got finished i really enjoyed it, gotta love the USS Boomkin :)

I'm pretty darn certain that an edited-down version of this video did in fact end up in one of the Never Stay Tuned clips. The blurb seems to indicate that it was intended for inclusion but never made it.

I just watched this yesterday on YouTube, and while I wish that the good Baron would finish it, I was at least consoled by the rick-roll :-)

Not going to happen - the project files have been Shift+DEL'ed into oblivion quite a while ago :)
I gotta make room for better stuff.

This is an old rave song from the 90's. Wouldn't expect most people to know this, including Baron.
halophoenix Aug 12th 2009 9:02PM
It's an old Dune track, if I remember correctly.
Ah, I miss the days when DJs still spun happy hardcore. Can't find anyone who wants to spin it these days! Just kind of fell out of style.
halophoenix Aug 12th 2009 9:05PM
Bleh - of course it says Dune in the video. That's what I get for turning away the first time I watched and coming back after the credit went by. :(

I can't wait until he releases People Walking to Bad Techno in Overly Filtered Video part 35.
Agony Aug 12th 2009 4:36PM
Ah! The troll speaks again.
So, you still haven't made any machinima of your own so we know what <cough><cough>"good" machinima is supposed to look like?
Didn't think so.
NEXT!
Matt Aug 12th 2009 4:58PM
Give me a break qoa.
This is a fine attempt. So what if it's not totally finished?
The visuals of people walking are filtered sure, but are they not stunning?
Also, the music is techno, is it bad? Maybe in the netherlands it is popular again, who knows. Alot of people who post here love this stuff!
No reason to suggest through sarcasm that all his hard work has fallen on deaf ears.
ANBU Aug 12th 2009 5:22PM
It is "Happy Hardcore", NOT "techno"
Johan Forn Aug 12th 2009 5:34PM
Don't you disrespect the 90s!! Happy hardcore, good times, good times.. everything was so much simpler. *sob*
Matt Aug 12th 2009 5:44PM
Happy Hardcore is a euphemism for techno.
halophoenix Aug 12th 2009 9:03PM
It most certainly is NOT a euphemism for techno! Techno is a very well defined electronic genre compared to hardcore or happy hardcore, and trust me, if you heard the two side by side you'd wonder why anyone would use the same word to describe both. :D
Ylixia Aug 13th 2009 8:35AM
Have to agree with both Johan & halophoenix, Happy Hardcore is not the same as Techno. Check out http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/ if you don't believe us :P
btw sample song #9 for Happy Hardcore happens to be another Dune track, Rainbow to the Stars.
Big sigh for happier, simpler days :D
