More WoW tattoos to admire
Truthfully, most of the tattoos we get from you all tend to be Horde tattoos, but we're not quite sure why that is. Are Horde-type folks more willing to ink up their bodies, or are they better at taking the pain? We do have a few exceptions -- Mike P. sent us this Lordaeron tattoo above (which in fact does look at little painful) that shows a little Alliance pride. If you've got a tattoo you want us to include here, feel free to send it along, and you just might see it here on the site.

Wow, that's commitment - I wonder how much they'll like those Horde and Alliance toons in ten years, but they sure do look pretty

BTW, for my money the spirit healer and the full-color horde crest are both the (a) best and (b) least likely to be rendered irrelevant down the road, as they're awesome art.

Most Alliance players are not old enough to get a tattoo LOL
xtole Aug 13th 2009 2:17PM
walking ads for the game and not getting paid.

If something is important enough to you, if you love something enough to want to literally make it a part of yourself, the last thing you're thinking about is whether it serves as an advertisement or not. It's about meaning; don't make it about money. Sheesh.

Wow, another example of up close gross pictures I don't want to see on the front page in my face.
Yeah, yeah, vote me down, call me troll, yada yada yada...
catharsis80 Aug 13th 2009 2:26PM
Totally called it. Oh yeah, this one too.

Being able to predict that your comment will be downrated doesn't make you special, it just shows that you're aware ahead of time that your comments will add nothing to the discussion.

Like that one. And this one. Yay.
Nah, I just find it interesting that if there is an opinion that differs from others in a thread, it is voted down, even though it may have everything to do with the post. For example, the title is "More WoW tattoos to admire". This implies they are really to be admired, but in my opinion, they are not. I'm not really upset, and of course I expected to be voted down. (Not to mention that disagreeing with the OP usually immediately gets you on the negative side of things. :) )
It's just that it's been brought up by others in the past (even WoW.com writes, I might add) that, as of late, there can be -- not very nice (?) -- pictures posted right on the front page. I know I seem to be in the minority in this culture that believe tattoos are nasty, but it's not as if my opinion is "dumb" or "not thought out". It's just a matter of taste. But anyway, take or leave it.

That one of Sylvanas' crest is very cool.

Horde players are more likely to be hardcore, Alliance players are more likely to be casual. It's the way it has always been. When alliance win in pvp its often purely due to superior numbers, not superior game skills. Top raiding guilds are horde. Actions like getting a game symbol tatooed on your arm or saying "for the horde" to people you know in real life are far more likely to be done by a hardcore gamer - more of whom play horde.
Historically, people joined alliance because the toons are "prettier" or because they have friends who are already alliance. Horde players joined horde both because the racials were far better at the time and the races appealed more to a serious gamer. I'm sure there are other reasons too, but the fact is horde players on average are more hardcore, always have been.

Barrens chat.

Since stereotypes are obnoxious I'm not going to assume everyone who plays on the horde is as stupid as you are. I'll just let it be known that in my experience I've seen little to no difference between the types and attitudes of people on either faction.
slartibart Aug 13th 2009 2:43PM
Anecdotal unsubstantiated evidence much?
Jennifer Aug 13th 2009 2:46PM
If Horde players are so hardcore, when do they find the time to get tattoos?
I guess I could argue that Alliance players are clearly more hardcore because they are too busy raiding to go out and get tattoos. *shrugs*
Either that or Alliance players are more open minded (like me) and are as likely to have characters on both factions and thus would prefer a more generic tattoo.

Hordies get their tattoos on Tuesdays.

1: I don't play horde. My statements were not self-glorifying, they were my educated opinion based on several sources over a period of years.
2: Unsubstantiated? Of the top 20 guilds according to wowprogress.com, 60% are horde. That's difference is still more significant when you realize that according to warcraftrealms.com/census.php there are 17% more alliance players than horde players overall. You can't get a lot more 'substantiated' than that. I never said "all horde are X and all alliance are Y" I carefully chose words like "more likely"
3: A statement about two groups being different is not automatically a false stereotype. If I say Japanese people are on average shorter than European people, that is not a stereotype because it is based on legitimate statistics.

For me, personally, I have an ever-growing collection of tattoos and I have a high threshhold for pain. I prefer Alliance, though I haven't found an Alliance symbol or design that I like enough to have permanently on my body.
My two cents on the matter...
Azizrael Aug 13th 2009 2:21PM
The simpler the artwork, the better the end result here. The Lordaeron and some of the Horde logos look awesome. Not for me, though, I'm not really a tattoo person.

Some of these are good, and some of these are just awful. Not awful because of personal taste or anything, but awful because of the skill level of the artist.
