I don't mind achievements. I rather like doing them, although not in pugs. (The nightmares I could tell you about trying to get achievements in pug runs.)
The only thing that actually bugs me, isn't the achievements, but the people who complain others won't carry them. They don't want to start their own groups with other people who need to do the content, they want to be carried by those who have already done it and aren't willing to carry them. It's a huge crime that people who have already cleared the content and are well geared want to do a quick run with others who have cleared the content and are well geared.
Oh well, such is WoW. :)
P.S. I'm one of the evil ones, if I have to pug then I prefer gear and achievement check groups. I even go as far to ensure the person demanding the achievements, has them already. Then again, the few groups I went on that didn't check, I ended up with tanks with 510 def trying (and failing badly) to tank Emalon... Or dps that couldn't out dps the tank.
