The Queue: Simple things
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Today is a day of, apparently, quick questions and quick answers. Most of the questions asked were fairly straightforward and not particularly involved. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is really up to you, but it is what it is: simple. I planned to embed a cartoon at the top of this video, but the aspect ratio made it gigantic if I used our standard width, so there's a link instead.
whalt asked...
"Any idea if prior season PvP weapons will ever be available from honor/arena points and not require an arena rating like the old Glad weapons were back in BC?"
I don't think we've heard anything about this, so I think you'll need to wait for Blizzard commentary on that over on the official forums. If I had to guess, if they haven't been doing it for previous seasons, they won't do it for this one. Seems they like the weapons being a little more "out of reach" during this expansion.
Soryne asked...
"...What IS attack power? I cannot find an answer anywhere."
I don't think the comments section yesterday linked Wowwiki nearly enough, so here's a link! A very, very basic explanation of the stat is that it makes melee physical attacks hit harder. Follow the Wowwiki link for a more detailed explanation.
mrs_carth_onasi asked...
"Why is Lady Sylvanas's new voice less menacing and more cute? It really is awful. I want the old voice over back!"
If I had to guess, I'd say they changed her voice in Undercity because they're doing additional voice work for her later on in the expansion. If they couldn't get her original voice actor back to do the new lines, they would go back with the new voice actor to make the old lines match the new ones. It's unfortunate, because Sylvanas's old voice actor was pretty awesome. There's something to be said for consistency though.
peagle asked...
"How about any word on fixing Tuesday lag on XT-002? Every Tuesday same wretched lag during hard mode..."
I have never experienced this, so I wouldn't even know where to look on comments about it. Readers, have you experienced this?
Chaosclaws asked...
"When a person gets to the "last" boss in ToC, they discover that the Black Knight has crashed the party. If he didn't "crash" it, who would have the final boss in ToC? I was thinking that maybe the Death Knight champion might have been the final boss due to the fact we don't fight any DKs for dailies or even in the first fight in ToC. I think also because it could be a "lets practice fighting an old Lich King minion for experience."
Eadric and/or Paletress was the last challenge. After you beat them, those in charge of the Trial start to congratulate you on winning, and are about to send you on your way. That was it. Two rounds, good game, you win, go home. The Black Knight showing up extends it. If he didn't show up, that would have been the end of it.
Briory asked...
"Has there been any word on when the faction changes will be available?"
None. And there were a lot of other faction change questions for this edition of The Queue as well, but I'll hit them all at the same time as this one: We cannot answer most of them until Blizzard opens the service up to the public or posts a more in-depth Q&A on it. The WoW.com team doesn't know any more about that particular service than what Blizzard has already told us, and that isn't much.

How does the hit cap apply to shamans? I was reading EJ and it's saying the cap is 13% for alliance and 14% for horde. Why is it such a difference for them?
ziggler Aug 13th 2009 9:58PM
@ precision
due to the talent that draenei provide that increases hit
Amak Aug 13th 2009 10:16PM
Well not a really a talent. More a passive racial group buff.
Precision Aug 14th 2009 12:17AM
That's not what I mean.... i'm trying to ask why it's 13% for shammies (alliance) and 8% for all the other melee classes.
Hoggersbud Aug 14th 2009 1:29AM
Spells. Shamans cast spells. So you're probably reading an EJ page Elemental SHamans, or just concerning itself with Enhancement Shamans with Elemental Spells.

Why doesn't Wow.com use their same secret source that confirmed the new expansion races to tell them details about the Faction Change service?
Not doubting the validity of your source, just wondering why that Source doesn't give you more info.
Omegan01 Aug 13th 2009 6:33PM
The more info you drop to outside people, the more chances your parent company has to nab your ass.
Murdock Aug 13th 2009 6:56PM
Because there is a difference between something that will be announced
at Blizzcon in two weeks (new races) and something that Blizzard is
still working on (faction changes) They want to do lost of testing
and trials on faction changes, therefor I doubt even Blizzard has a
hard date for it, more of a target I would guess.

How does a weapon's DPS affect a Druid's melee attacks in cat and bear form? I checked the wowwiki article on Feral Attack Power but it wasn't too helpfull.
Crash Aug 13th 2009 6:38PM
FAP = ((DPS - 55) * 14). Where FAP = feral attack power, DPS = damage per second of the weapon.
ryanthered Aug 13th 2009 6:46PM
Well, the equation is FAP = (DPS - 54.8) * 14. So something like the Titansteel Destroyer would give 1843 FAP. I believe the reason for this is that cats and bears get different amounts of AP from Agility and Strength so this was a way to avoid having to itemize weapons as "bear" and "cat".

fap fap fap fap fap ;)

Excuse me if this seems trollish or intentionally smart-ass (I swear it's not, I'm honestly interested), but I'd like to know how all the WoW.com staff who have repeatedly put down the idea of new races in the next expansion, quite adamantly, are taking the leaked information about the Worgen and Goblins. Are you guys pleasantly surprised? Angry? Feeling foolish? Hungry?

It's getting really old getting disconnnected 3 or 4 times trying to log into Dalaran. I never have trouble loggin in anywhere else, just "Lagaran". Is Blizzard ever gonna fix this lag problem? I know I'm not the only 1 who suffers from something that's probably easy to fix.
RogueJedi86 Aug 13th 2009 7:59PM
Most of us don't get disconnects. What makes you think it's an easy fix? If it were as easy as Changing "DalaranLag=1" to "DaralanLag=0", then I'm sure they'd have done it long ago. But most of us don't lag. It's most likely your computer. My rig is nearly top of the line, and I never get lag or disconnects.
epik.phailure.gamer Aug 13th 2009 8:51PM
Yes there IS Lag in Dal and this morning on Runetotem, Dal was down all together at around 5am realm time to 7am realm time.
There were other small bugs too, Auctioneers were missing from SW (only one to be found for hours).
But about DAL, I dont remeber the exact error, but if your toon was in Dal or Northrend all together and you tried to sign onto that toon, it would go to the toon loading screen, load, then kick up the error and return you back to the toon selection screen. I was not the only person to suffer from this either. It was all across the realm on both alliance and horde toons.
So sometimes Rogue, in your expert wisdom, it is not the player but Blizz having problems.
Kitbasher Aug 13th 2009 10:16PM
Sometimes after a patch I will experience what you are discussing at Dalaran, and back in BC in Shatt as well. It does not happen often, and after recently having it happen I did a little bit of research. It seems that quiet a while ago a change was made to flush our item cache and have us rebuild it. It appears that that the network traffic that occurs when trying to rebuild that item cache overloads my connection. So far I have tried numerous network settings, two network chip sets (my motherboard has two nic's on board) and tried different settings on both my router and my DSL modem. All of this had negligible impact. What I found that works is I keep a back up of the item cache backed up and if it is playing Dalaran lag out on me I swap in the backup for the blank file and go about my gaming. Of course this does not happen often and I think my weak link is my router, I don't think it is keeping up with heavy traffic based on other issues I have with it.
If anyone can suggest a great broadband router for multi-boxing, please let me know.

question for the queue:
why?
Dakai Aug 13th 2009 7:10PM
Who can we expect to see in the Icecrown raid aside from Arty and his magic dragon? Any unfinished lore around northrend we will get some closure on in that pretty castle?
