Onyxia is one of the greatest NPCs of vanilla
WoW, from a lore, quest chain and raid perspective. Hands up how many of you have done the quest line to completion? Who visited Blackrock Spire? Who unmasked Katrana Prestor as the giant black Broodmother she truly was? Who got the key and then headed into the depths of Dustwallow Marsh? Who survived? Given my dragon fixation/interest/obsession, I was always keen to kill her. I would have completed the quest chain but for a little bug on the final quest. Still, it was easy enough to nip in once the need for a key and attunement was dropped. Then Varian Wrynn finished her off.
And now
she's back. I don't understand it either but finding out is certainly going to be exciting. Plus there's finally a 310% dragon mount that I actually
want. So, constant readers, what do you think about this revelation? How do you think she will be brought back into the picture? Is it just something to keep us entertained until
patch 3.3 or could it be part of the bigger picture? After all, this announcement has come just over a week before
BlizzCon. It's gotta mean something, right?

Wow, Nick, way to fail at reading comprehension.
He said: "I wish they would stop making new instances until their servers can fully handle the load. More instances will mean more people trying to get into them, which means more people jumping in and out of the portal for an hour trying to get inside."
How did you get anything elitist out of that??

I think it's FREAKING AWESOME. I'm going to go watch Blind to celebrate.

New and exciting! Molten Core will now be level 80. Yes, because we've run out of content to keep you little drones busy. Featuring: Updated Core Leather and Ingots to farm for iLVL 232-245 gearz, hurray.

About the only thing I look forward to out of this is another free 22 slot bag. ;)

I always thought that they should have her come back to scorch Stormwind. Wrynn could "think" he finished her off, but it's often debated whether her father was killed. And Nefarion never seems to be really gone no matter how many times you show up in front of Wrynn with his head in your bag.
I really liked the startled comments when Ony would appear in the keep. You'd walk a guild member up the ramp with Windsor and say, "Whatever you do, don't attack anything. Just stand and watch." They would, invariably say, after the event was over, "That was awesome!"
So Wrynn thinks he's killed her, but there is a conspiracy deep in the bowels of SW. A quest chain as long as the original to get the amulet, could tie in the missing diplomat chain with whether Ony's really dead. It would take you all over the world, maybe tying in Arthas and a scourge necromancer in Andorhal. In turning in your quest chain, the evil villian says, "You have called the destruction of Stormwind upon the king who claims to have killed her. Prepare to die." or some such gloom and doom. Onyxia would show up to drop fireballs on the city. You'd have to get 25 of your best friends to fight her and her brood. Wrynn would simply yell, "Kill her!" or some such kingly statements. It would be a great event to involve lots of people currently in Stormwind. When she dies, her head would go on a pike in the harbor. You could have it handing twice, once in front of the city, assuming you keep the level 60 raid as it is, and once on a pike in front of the city.
There would be comparable dialog and quest chains for horde with her head outside of Orgrimmar by the zeppelins.
But, since they didn't ask me for my suggestions, I'll take whatever they come up with. I can't wait to see what they do with her. As for the T2 hunter helm, I look like I could pick up the transmissions from the International Space Station with that helm. And they saw fit to recycle the skin for a great helm in Shadowmoon Valley. Still, I just need the pants and the gloves for the complete T2 set. It is the best looking in the game. We're going to be running Ony quite frequently now before the patch as many people in my guild want the T2 set.

@kylenne, well of course they have to make changes. They have to up the damage, up the health of the mobs. That is basic logic.
But when they say change the mechanics of it that implies they are changing the way the fights work. Changing the encounters themselves. It goes beyond merely making it more difficult.

Looks good to me. If there was really a concern about lore, I suppose they could simply make it a Caverns of Time Instance, say "Ah Crap, Arthas just raised her from the dead!" or you could even pop a goatee on the old Ony model and say, now you fight the evil Onyxia!
Does it really matter? We are going to go back to the first instance where you do a few trash pulls and jump right on the boss. Not to mention the most fun raid in Vanilla WoW!

I personally think that Onyxia's return to the end game is another hint at the content of WoW 4.0. We know it is called "Cataclysm" which likely refers to The Sundering. We know that Deathwing played a critical role in The Sundering. What's more? Blizzard gave us Obsidian Sanctum featuring Twilight Drakes that we know Deathwing has been involved with in the past. Deathwing in his human form was also featured in Yogg-Saron's mind chamber. Goblins are a new race in the expansion, and according to WoWWiki goblins helped forge the disk containing the Demon Soul. The Worgen will likely be associated with Gilneas, and as Lord Daval Prestor, Deathwing manipulated Genn Greymane into turning his country into the isolated state that it is today. Why would Blizzard be giving us so much black dragonkin related content as we approach the announcement of the next expansion?
My prediction: Deathwing is THE baddie in the next expansion. Perhaps he is also behind the Nighmare in the Emerald Dream. It would seem fitting if Malfurion Stormrage played a critical role in taking down Deathwing.

i love howu clueless dumb shiTTTs assume certain things....u guys have no f ing clue about anything...the best case scenario is taht they where lazy and used ony as a excuse to rehash oldcrap and hope people except it...dont sit at your cpu and pretend u are iin cahoootswith blizzard u assinine twat.

I think this is just showing that Blizzard has run out of ideas. Fixing a level 60 Raid to level 80 10 and 25 man? More like "we've run out of ideas until the Icecrown Raid, so to show you all we have NO ideas left, we're going to cave into you guy and do what you've been saying. We're making an old instance up-to-date with level 80".
I'd expect more creativity from a company like Blizzard. But maybe it's because all their good people are making the next MMO. All they have is Ghostcrawler.
Labmixz Aug 14th 2009 3:56PM
This shows how uncreative Blizzard has been with WoW over the past few years, re-using every model they can for new encounters. Honestly I think Blizzard just doesn't care about WoW anymore and making sure their new projects get the attention from the good developers while we are stuck with ones that can't come up with anything other than 'Hey, lets re-use something... it saves us time, money, and we can have more time off in the end!', rather than making the game an on-going development like it should be.

I think it's nice... but I am very angry at Blizzard for destroying the old one. They deny us Pre-BC servers, yet are taking away the content.
tshanawaz Sep 25th 2009 1:06PM
I am just saddened that they are run out of ideas. I liked them for BC and WOTLK. Atleast it was different from what I had been exposed to in PRE-BC. But now cataclysm makes me go back to the old content that I already know like the back of my hand. Not very cool
