Possible new race/class combinations datamined
Here's another whopper from Handclaw at Scrolls of Lore, who first uncovered the goblin and worgen masks a month ago.
You may remember the quest added to Thunder Bluff recently, where two druids talk about the merits of following the Sun instead of the Moon. Well, on the 3.2.2 PTR, another new quest has been added, this time to Darnassus, where a Highborne mage asks for an audience with Tyrande to offer his services as a mage.
While many speculated that the Thunder Bluff quest indicated a new class, they may be more correct than they think.
In the Patch 3.2.2 PTR files, a number of new race/class combination NPCs were discovered. The data mined from MMO-Champion seems to indicate that several races will have the ability to roll classes previously unavailable to them. Unlike our confirmed addition of the new races, it is only speculation that these combinations will be playable, but with the addition of the class-related quests with each additional patch, it seems quite likely.
The current list of these combinations is after the jump. Several races should prepare to jump for joy.
- Human Hunter
- Orc Mage
- Night Elf Mage
- Blood Elf Warrior
- Dwarf Shaman
- Dwarf Mage
- Undead Hunter
- Tauren Paladin
- Tauren Priest
- Gnome Priest
- Troll Druid
Yes, that's right. Another shaman for the Alliance, another paladin for the Horde side, two more hunters, another druid for the Horde, a gnome healing class, the triumphant return of the lost-to-vanilla-beta dwarf mage, the advent of blood elf warriors...
If this turns out to be something Blizzard is adding with Cataclysm, the amount of rerollers on top of those playing the new races will be truly staggering. Now where's my other Alliance druid, Blizzard?
2n - 1 go left, 2n go right. I don't see enough DoTs! More DoTs now! Are you ready for the return of Onyxia? With the Brood Mother being revitalized as a 10 and 25 person raid, you'll need to be sure you know everything that's coming at you. WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.2.2 will make sure your set for the next patch!

"Worgen Druid. You heard it here first."
Totally agree. First thought I had when I read that list was get ready for incoming alliance QQ about horde now having 2 Druid races.

Does a worgen druid just turn into a normal guy when he changes forms? "Dwarf in plate form! OK, now elf in leather form!"
Henry Aug 14th 2009 7:12PM
BOOOOOOOOOOOO!
tonedeff Aug 14th 2009 7:13PM
Seems like it might also have somthing todo with the faction changes, being able to pick from more races

That sounds wrong... Night Elf Mages? Tauren Paladins? Might want to examine that information a bit better, because those two classes don't make a whole lot of sense from a lore perspective (what with the NElves hating arcane magic and the Tauren having nothing to do with the Light). If those are true, Blizz would have to do some serious lore twisting to pull it off.
On the other hand... Human Hunter? Damn it, I'll have to leave a character slot open for when the expansion drops!

Agree on both these points. While I think we could rationalize the Tauren worshipping the Light through the Sun and unknowingly using the Light like the Blood Elves did, how on earth could we rationalize the Night Elves using Arcane magic???
Not to go all lore nerd, but that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I'm guessing the talk about the one highborne using the moonwell, and seeing as how night elves using the well caused a huge disaster, say... a CATACLYSM. ;)

Night Elves using arcane magic? Hmm, pretty sure that rings a big Illidan shaped bell somewhere in my head. Also there is the fact that Night Elves pretty much invented the use of arcane magic, you know, when they were called the Kaldorei. L2Lore more.

night elves already use arcane magic, ask any balance druid :) though I tend to think shamans would would fit the current society better than mages as they tend to prefer nature magic.

And they learned that arcane magic was BAD since it caused The Great Sundering (you know, the Maelstrom) and the drew the Burning Legion to Azeroth. Learning from mistakes is probably what sets the Night Elves above other races *cough*humans*cough* so suddenly having a lot of Night Elves rolling mages... yeah, I don't see that happening. Lore wise.
But then we have blue space-goats, so I say it's entirely possible after all.

Arcane magic isn't bad if used in a balanced way, just ask any druid, mages also used the arcane arts in a balanced way. The only class using the arcane in a risky way are Warlocks and if they started allowing Nelfs to roll those then I'd have a 'stupid change is stupid' field day with it.
Also it was a druid who was responsible for the Sundering, Malfurion Stormrage caused the Well of Eternity to collapse in his battle with Azshara which caused the splitting of the Kalimdor landmass into the three known continents seperated by the Maelstrom.
I guess what I'm trying to say is by and large when a lore character has had good intentions in the use of the arcane nothing bad usually happens, however those with evil intent who misuse the arcane arts really screw things up.
As you say, the Night Elves learn from their mistakes so would know that a regulated and decent use of the arcane is not necessarily a bad thing.

Download the PTR client and go to the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus.
There's a Highborne Archmage in there seeking an audience with Tyrande, wanting to offer aid to the night elves.

Seriously, if this drops w/ the expansion there are going to be loads of re-rollers.
Maybe thats why the changed the whole mount thing.

Worgen Druid

I bet the alliance druid will be the wolvar.
Daigeil Aug 14th 2009 7:15PM
Troll Druid? I just wanna know what the troll catform would look like. Fecking -awesome-, I think.
Aoeadin Aug 14th 2009 7:55PM
I reckon it'll just use the boss forms from ZA lol.
regisfrost Aug 14th 2009 8:23PM
Night Elves - pwetty races get pwetty cats.
Tauren - cows with horns get cats that look like cows with horns.
Troll - blue long limbed race with tusks. Now imagine the cat. Yes, I'm sorry, kid, we have to put him down. *loads the shotgun*
Eddy Aug 14th 2009 9:35PM
I hope the greener, more Amani-toned skins have more Zul'Aman themed colorings, like Lynx cat forms and black-brown bear forms (and maybe a Dragonhawk flight form?), while the more purple island trolls have Zul'Gurub themed colors, tiger coloring perhaps and a more exotic looking bear, and maybe the blue, Drakkari color looks more like the fauna found in Zul'Drak.
Maybe that would be going too far, as all the playable trolls are Zandali, but I think it would really be sweet to reflect the diversity of the Troll race in their druidism.
