Whither Quel'Serrar?

On the one hand it would seem very odd to go through the rest of the quest chain for Quel, then take the Unfired Ancient Blade in to level 80 Onyxia to complete The Forging of Quel'Serrar in order to run back to Dire Maul and pick up a 20 level out of date tanking sword, no matter how cool it looks. But since the quest doesn't specify what level she is, it might be possible (It was possible to complete a Naxxramas quest from before TBC launched in the current 25 man Naxxramas). However, unless Ony will continue to drop the sinew, I can't see how folks could possibly complete the epic Hunter quest chain. Does that mean those quests will be gone from the game?
Since I don't play a Hunter and I already have Quel'Serrar, this is all kind of academic to me. But I do wonder: my dearest hope is that they actually update the Quel quests (or make an entirely new one) which allows you to get an updated Quel'Serrar. Perhaps Quel'Zaram? I guess I might as well dream big while I'm at it. Bornakk's post certainly hints very strongly that there will be a successor to Quel dropped from Onyxia.

Not rly sure how i feel about having old content back. I kind of looked the other way with Naxx since not many but the hardcore raiders had seen it before TBC came out.
I dont like them recycling old content, although id like an updated Azeroth. I guess some ppl wanted old content to be new again, and im curious how many other dungeons will re emerge with new gear.
Theres a lot of old weapons though that id love to see updated.

Using your same logic, a lot of people play the game now that didn't 4/5 years ago when Onyxia was out. Also, even if they did play, they might not have raided then. Personally, I really don't feel like we need old content back. It makes me feel like, "What is important enough to warrant being redone? Will Sunwell come back in the next expansion because a lot of people didn't see it in BC?"
In this specific case though, they are bringing back Onyxia for WoW's 5 year anniversary to make it relevant and more of a nostalgia thing because it is a really good representation of WoW.
The only thing I can add, relevant to the article, is I wish they don't do what they did with Naxx. LEAVE ONYXIA'S LVL 60 RAID THERE!

what swamp said... LEAVE THE 60 RAID THERE! If Blizz had it so you could enable a level 60 40 man mode, that'd be cool...

There's also a difference between recycling old content and that's all they give us, versus a "bonus" of updating old content. Because this is coming in patch 3.2.2 (which, because of the 5th anniversary stuff, should be in late October or November?) it feels more like a bonus to me. I've never done that whole quest line anyway, i'm late to the party myself. But, it's just the nature of the game that some of that stuff just goes by the wayside and never really gets visited...doubt many people are in Tempest Keep.

Its not just the sword. There's a few biggies that need Ony in classic form.
*Her scales are needed for BWL (what about all those toons that want to stop XP at 60, or the people that still have vanilla WoW accounts??).
*The scepter quest chain. I ran in last night to finally get the draconic for dummies book...what happens with that chain for those who want to complete it?
*We've already lost the original Ony quest chain which was quite simply one of the best in WoW...kinda makes me sad as my money says they won't keep the old quest items in the drop list. just like the took out hte Frozen Runes from Naxx v2 :(

Think about this too though: There *is* no Ony chain with Varian in SW now. Lady Prestor is gone, and for some unknown reason there's this cave with this big honkin' purple-black dragon in the middle of Nowhere-Land. If they retune and update a reason for her to be there, it at least ties up a loose end for that chain being snipped.

New updated Lok'delar and Rhok'delar would be awesome (especially since the model for Rhok'delar is awesome) but I hope I don't lose the old ones in my bank that I've kept for nostalgia's sake.

Well, as they say in France, "Quel'Serrar, Serrar'...

Very hard.

The great and powerful Bornakk posted that it will stay in the game, but won't say if it'll get an update.

If you read further down the thread Bornakk posts again "The tier 2 helms aren't the only models we wanted to reuse, that's all I'm saying. "
Admittedly not a confirmation, but a hint.
Volaro Aug 14th 2009 11:10AM
He also mention that Shadow flame might not be an issue, so we could a lot more BWL runs in the future, if the cloak isnt needed.

I actually started farming Dire Maul last night for the book to start the Quel'Serrar quest line. My husband and I both want to pick up the blade for "RP" purposes--and we want to make sure we get it before they remove Ony as a farmable boss.
Turall Aug 14th 2009 2:15PM
The drop rate is so astronomically low, you can't farm it.
Just buy one from the AH.
Jon Do Aug 14th 2009 9:39AM
You can't have it both ways.
Either leave the old stuff alone, and the lore intact, or...
Update the old stuff, enjoy it, and ignore the fact that it busts existing lore all to pieces.
I'm ok with ignoring lore to have a new raid. But if I had my preference I'd rather leave the old stuff alone and have new lore and the daughter of Onyxia or something. They could even phase it - at level 60 or less, Onyxia in there, but at level 61 the same portal opens to a new nasssty dragon occupant with new lore.
Reinhold Aug 14th 2009 9:51AM
It's not like the raid is new. It's just RETUNNED.
Nothing wrong with that. Onyxia still died by Varian's hands, all there'll be to it is that Onyxia will be at the current tier of raiding.
How hard is for everyone it to accept it?
I mean, really!?
Lorewise, I'd be able to betray the Horde, join the Scourge and mess with other player's lives.
Lorewise, NO ONE but one person would be able to get Atiesh, or the Thunderseeker, etc.
Lorewise, we would not be able to repeat dungeons.
Please, cut the crap, enjoy the content.
Jon Do Aug 14th 2009 10:41AM
Woah, settle down big boy. It's really not worth getting that excited about, just a bunch of pixels to occupy my spare time.
There's really nothing to 'accept', except that this is all been there, done that content. But I don't mind doing it again with new loot tables.
Broken lore bother me all that much. You needn't get so worked up over it either.
Honest.
JPN Aug 14th 2009 10:54AM
Guess what...you can have it both ways! They can do whatever they want. KT is in TK and MT "at the same time"...so they could make a "new" Ony and leave the old one in. I feel like they're pretty good about not letting lore stand in the way of the fun of the game and game mechanics.
Reinhold Aug 14th 2009 11:19AM
I'm not even winded D:
Didn't mean to flip out on you. Here, take a pony @_@
Jon Do Aug 14th 2009 11:03AM
@JPN
I would be ok with something like that, for example:
They could have even "phased" it so that Oxy's portal takes you to "old Ony" up to level 60, and "child of Ony" (with similar fight mechanics learned from mama) from level 61+, with some lore touch-up.
But I'm under the impression that "old Ony" will be entirely gone in 3.2.2, though I might be wrong about that.
