@Omega2k3
Some thoughts on the points you raised.
1) A think a candidate to solve several of the problems would be the new phasing that was used heavily in WotLK. http://www.wowwiki.com/Phasing. Although, at present the limitation is that the terrain needs to look identical in all phases - something they would have to fix if they are to tear Azeroth asunder.
2) Boosting in the old world. First thought would be that it wouldn't be a disaster if 80+ players could no longer boost players below 60, some sad pandas yes, but not a disaster. However maybe they could do it such that when you group, you phase with the lowest level character.
3) "Old World is MASSIVE". It is big, although looks can be a bit deceiving as it would feel a lot smaller if you could fly, both getting perspective and increased speed. I *think* Northrend is roughly the same size as Eastern Kingdoms. So one possibility is that they only phase Kalimdor or a percentage of it, and mostly leave EK alone (perhaps for the 5th expansion :P ).

I hope that even some of it IS true.
Eltanos Aug 14th 2009 8:55PM
Revamping the old world for the next expansion is a very good idea from Blizz since most of the events related to the Cataclysm should take part in places that already exist in the game (Grim Batol, etc...) This expansion will truly be memorable
notworksafe Aug 15th 2009 12:24AM
It'll be memorable and lead perfectly into some crazy conclusion that sets up the four faction sequel to WoW!
The split is perfect now:
Gnome/Forsaken/Tauren
Human/Blood (or re-redubbed High?) Elf/Dwarf
Orc/Troll/Goblin
Night Elf/Draenei/Worgen

Aside from the lol lore of some of those race/class combos (Night Elf mage are you EFFING KIDDING ME, Metzen?!), I'm liking it. I hope everything's true but that. :P
TimothyCathcart Aug 14th 2009 8:58PM
Given the return of the highborne in the current PTR, Nightelf mages aren't so hard to believe.
Kylenne Aug 14th 2009 9:00PM
That doesn't make it any less ridiculous, BTW.

Night elf mages goes against EVERYTHING. It is not that long ago that Illidan was defeated, the one that is the symbol of what arcane magic can do to you.
Dreadskull Aug 14th 2009 10:16PM
Night Elves were mages once upon a time, back when the Well of Eternity was around. Ever heard of the Moonguard or Illidan before he was imprisoned and became a Demon Hunter?
Tib Aug 15th 2009 2:27AM
He's not saying they don't have the capability. What he's saying is they WOULDN'T do it. Fundamentally speaking it goes against EVERYTHING the Night Elves believe. The Night Elves live, in some ways, under a Theocracy. One of the CORE BELIEFS of the Night Elves is to shun arcane and become one with nature. To allow Mages would be the same as, say, the pope removing one of the 10 Commandments, or allowing Hindu's to eat cow (inb4 Tauren paladin/priest, Holy Cow joke). It wouldn't happen. The last time the Night Elves allowed Mages to train, the Legion damn near took Azeroth, which was blown into a series of continents instead of the singular land mass it used to be. Given their life span it's fair to assume there are quite a few Night Elves that are still alive from that time. I promise you they'd have "issues" with NE Mages.

Dread, might remind you that the highborn where thrown out because they refuesed to not used arcane magic? So therefor, it would go against everything that the nightelves stand for.
Artificial Aug 15th 2009 3:14AM
@Tib: You're making the fundamental mistake of thinking because the majority of a race believes something, all members must believe it. The majority of humans thing messing with demons is a bad idea, too. That doesn't stop human warlocks of hiding in the basements of bars and meddling with things they shouldn't.
It makes a lot of sense to say most night elves would not be mages, would not want there to be mages. It's makes a lot of sense to say night elf society is against night elves being mages. It makes no sense to say no night elf would ever become a mage. No race is a borg collective. The attitudes of the society at large tell you nothing about the beliefs and practices of an individual.
fourwinds113 Aug 15th 2009 6:52AM
It's not unreasonable at all to think that there would be night elves choosing to follow the path of the mage, and that there would be many existing night elves that resent them from it. Just because "arcane = bad" is the overwhelming opinion, and some will stick to that, that doesn't mean every single night elf is of that opinion. It's certainly possible some would try becoming mages.
ZakuraX Aug 15th 2009 8:41AM
The fact that the NEs have a death penality on arcane magic (That is any form of mage magic, fire, water and arcane. They all count.)
They executed Highbornes because they would not stop using magic. And exiled them at the end. It really has to be a epic quest to explain why they suddenly should allow it now.
But if they manage to get it into the lore somehow. (Including the DNA change that is required if you ahve read about the highborn on wowwiki), then I am for it.
Like that they get Elunes blessing for it. All NEs will die if they are not suddenly learning magic and so on.
JKWood Aug 15th 2009 11:51AM
Erm... No, they didn't. They didn't execute a single elf for using magic. They didn't have it in them, so they banished them instead. Death penalty, yes. Actual enforcement, no.
Hallis Aug 15th 2009 3:37PM
I'm thinking more about the troll druid and tauren paladin.
Kovah Aug 15th 2009 7:49PM
@Tib
Tell that to Illidan. :P
When will everyone understand that the Lore isn't there to dictate what Blizzard can do. :P If they want to change the lore, they do so.
Pughead Aug 14th 2009 8:55PM
Ok, What?
Anetheron Aug 14th 2009 8:56PM
Old Azeroth still has a lot of fun content, why destroy it. >:
Plus is their any sources on this at all? I checked MMO-Champion and nothing there to.
I call shenanigans.
Splink Aug 14th 2009 8:57PM
Check again.
