Breakfast Topic: What bosses do you think we'll be facing in Icecrown Citadel?

It's been an imposing figure ever since Wrath was launched, a reminder of why we're in Northrend in the first place and our ultimate goal. With Patch 3.3 inching ever closer, Ghostcrawler's revelation, although sarcastic, certainly set me thinking. We might not be facing thirty one bosses but look at the size of the place. There's no way Arthas is rattling around there on his own. Oh no, that would be too simple. Two of those we can guess: Arthas himself and Malgyos' resurrected mate, Sindragosa. She's been leering at us from the login screen since day one (technically since before then actually) so for her not to be included as a raid boss is simply unthinkable. I'm wondering if she will be the Lich King's Sapphiron.
I'm betting, while not as huge as GC originally said, that Icecrown Citadel is still going to be big and complex. Probably somewhere between Karazhan and Ulduar in terms of bosses. It's going to be epic and certainly not a walk in the park. Especially as this will be the end of the Wrath storyline and the last big patch before the next expansion, so it's got to be a challenge that won't be beaten in a couple of days.
So, constant readers, who do you think we'll be facing? Will Kel'Thuzzad return again or will we be seeing totally new bosses to test us before facing the Lich King himself?

Arthas.

I was hoping for a breakfast topic on all the new Xpac speculation. Its hard to think about Arthas when Blizzcon is around the corner.
Forget 3.3 i want Cataclysm Nao! ;}

Perhaps those two captains that accompanied Arthas throughout his campaigns. They're also spotted in one of the cinematics.. Falric and Marwynn I think.

Him and his 30 Jormungar worms.

Not one but THIRTY Jormungar!

@Narshe. How do you imagine it would be possible to discuss the Cataclysm leak without spoiling it for those who don't wish for it to be spoiled?

I'm thinking Bolvar and Saurfang the Younger might make a comeback, considering what players learn if they had the "I can speak Draconic" bug after the Wrathgate.

Saurfang hasn't been spoken of since Wrathgate. Bolvar's fate was hinted at by Alexstrasza immediately after Wrathgate, and again in Ulduar, in the visions of Yogg-Saron.
For certain we'll see:
1. Bolvar Fordragon
2. Sindragosa
3. The Lich King
Possibilities:
-Young Saurfang, but unlike Bolvar, there's been no indication he survived the Wrathgate.
-As usual, we'll see a grab bag of other bosses representing the forces of the Scourge: Vrykul, spectral, nerubian, abomination, death knight, liches, etc.
-Arthas may be trying to wipe out Yogg-Saron's last minions from Naz'anak, so there may be a Faceless-related boss. (Keep in mind that the Lich King's throne is on a pinnacle _underneath_ the entire glacier.)
-The Scourge are dependent on saronite, and with Yogg-Saron dead, it'll be interesting to see how they cope with the flow of the metal now stopped.
-We'll see some Horde/Alliance banter early on in the dungeon (or as part of story progression before we enter), but we'll be forced to fight alongside them.
-We'll be following Tirion Fordring around through the dungeon, culminating with a showdown between Ashbringer and Frostmourne.
-I expect Tirion to die, possibly sacrificing himself to kill the Lich King.
-The Knights of the Ebon Blade have nothing else to live for after the Lich King is dead. After the Lich King dies, they'll reveal their next plans. Since the Lich King telepathically controls the Scourge, they'll be running around aimlessly when he dies. (Sounds a lot like the situation at the end of StarCraft/beginning of Brood War. With the Overmind dead, the Zerg ran amok.) I suspect Mograine will become a central figure in Warcraft after that point. (Remember what Kerrigan did?)

Anyone remember the First death knights? Orc spirits put into human bodies? Or The Lich king for that matter, he was created when an Orc spirit, Ner'zhul, was merged with a human body, Arthas. I think, since the Lich king has an orc spirit, Saurfang's, and a human body, Bolvar's, I believe he will make a traditional death knight. And it will be a boss.

I think we'll see another Ulduar siege type flame leviathan boss/bosses.
I'd like to think the entrance to the "Raid" will be somewhere in the tournament grounds. Then the raid instance will come in two modes. External and Internal.
The External would be the Icecrown zone essentially. I'd imagine we'd all have to mount up and charge through a mass of Scourge and try to help various troops take down those nasty big flesh and bone giants and frostwyrms that guard the gates that we normally just fly over. I imagine there would be vehicles but you might not need them for the actual boss/es. If an external section to the attack on the liche king exists then it's possible Sindragosa would be involved then, much as Razorscale was, that said their could be a battlement section or landing pad we could battle it on internally.
Internally. I'm guessing we'll see Tirion a fair ol' bit, Saurfang junior who i'd imagine we will either redeem or put to rest. Bolvar is a bit more complicated. We might see him as unexpected reinforcements or he might turn up to help redeem Saurfang or it might be the red dragons hinting was a red herring and that Bolvar has a fate similar to Saufang JR.
The outside stuff is speculation but i wouldn't be suprised to see a vehicle section, as much as some people seem to despise vehicles.

Be awesome if it was just Arthas, have the encounter be one massive scripted event with various phases and stages etc.
Varne Aug 15th 2009 8:11AM
Kael'Thas.

Well put sir! Best comment I've read all day.

Thanks!
Still want Galakrond...

Kael Thas! From KT's death speech it sounds like he will be back. He did say this in the original Naxx too but you'd think they would have changed his speech if he wasn't going to be back. Then again, several bosses seem to think they will rise again and so on when they die.
shkss Aug 15th 2009 7:14PM
Kael'thas was in Nax? When did this happen? Kel'thuzad's in there.
I think we'll see Bolvar reanimated and Saurfang the younger too, for Alliance and Horde versions of the encounter respectively. Sindragosa is a certainty, as is Arthas.
I doubt that Frostmourne and The Ashbringer would drop. Although it could be done, as when Arthas retrieved frostmourne, he was infused with Ner'zhul, the Lich King. The armor and sword was only a host for the Lich King, and he swapped host to Arthas, so technically frostmourne no longer houses the spirit of Ner'zhul and should be perfectly fine to wield.
If we had a final showdown with Tirion and Arthas then that could be done, with deathknights being able to wield Frostmourne and Paladins Ashbringer.
That's on the low chance that these items are made into drops.
