With news that the
Broodmother herself
is returning for
WoW's fifth anniversary and
patch 3.2.2, it got me thinking about other old world bosses which could be revamped. Now don't get me wrong, I totally get that Onyxia is a one-time thing this expansion.
All fun and no lore, to paraphrase one of our commentators, Maxim. But the concept is ripe for a Breakfast Topic, after all Onyxia is a classic raid but she wasn't the only one. Granted, she remains the most popular and the most legendary, the raid itself was almost a reward for completing what has to be the game's most epic quest chain. And then there was the loot, the
lovely legendary (if not in colour) loot. Excuse me while I drool.
So lets say, hypothetically, you could bring back any lower level boss for a short time period aimed at level 80s. Which would you choose? Personally I'd love to see the
Dragons of Nightmare, simply because they were so epic. Indeed, they are still a challenge to down today, especially with
that annoying debuff. I also live in hope of seeing something of the
Emerald Dream soon but that's for another day. So, constant readers, if you could have one boss return revamped for a hardcore level 80 raid, which would it be?

Kael' thas for sure
Level 70 was merely a setback....

/agree
If he could come back in MgT, why not at level 80? :D
SunwellVialist Aug 16th 2009 9:21AM
Hell. Yes!
Always time for another round of MgT!
Still one of the best instances, imho

he could be the guy that keeps on coming back! Just when we thought he was gone for good, He's back for a level 100 raid boss!

Exactly what I was thinking. Magister's Terrace was just a setback.
I think if Kael'thas showed back up as one of the San'layn like Valanar or Keleseth that would just be very cool and would fit in very well in this expansion.
Personally though, I'd love to be able to go back and do Illidan again. That is still one of my favorite raid fights in the game.
As far as whether this sort of thing is feasible in the lore of the game or not think about this: Paletress. Part of her fight is that she summons shadows from your past in the form of old raid bosses. Think about expanding on this. What about 10 and 25 man versions of the bosses, with all of their original abilities. Maybe they could just drop badges or epic gems instead of having to completely update their loot tables. I'd love to be able to have her summon up a Shade of Illidan to fight again.
Or maybe a Shade of Shade of Aran. :P

His head's gone, right? We actually removed that from his body, right?
Hallow's End, we got a bad guy without a head, right? Supposed to be a fallen paladin? Couldn't he easily have a comrade, a fallen mage driven mad while trying to save his people?
Kael'thas and the Headless Horseman, Hallow's End bosses '10!

I'd like ZF
McDuff Aug 16th 2009 8:07AM
VanCleef!
Wolftech Aug 16th 2009 10:50AM
Seconded... but make sure the whole crew is there ;)
McDuff Aug 16th 2009 11:21AM
Now I have visions of Mr. Smite having three phases, each more deadlier than the last.
altarka Aug 16th 2009 5:59PM
I'm with you! Deadmines remains my favorite dungeon of all time.
Besides, way more players have seen Van Cleef than ever saw Onyxia or the other raid bosses.
Minidrake Aug 16th 2009 9:11PM
Epic VanCleef? Oh yeah. ABSOLUTELY.
I could also ask for an epic Blackrock complex. Everything form the Lair down to Molten Core.
jjtwalton Aug 16th 2009 8:10AM
:) /hug
Probably Illidan. He wasn't particularly massive like a Gruul or a Brutallus... but he was epic. Level 80 Warglaives would be necessary, though... and that'd break guilds up! Perhaps Kael'thas and a 350% Ashes of Alar! :D

Which boss would revamp? A noun's missing, methinks.
Clydtsdk-Rivendare Aug 16th 2009 9:48AM
"you" is a pronoun
Terethall Aug 16th 2009 9:52AM
... which is a type of noun...
JustinM Aug 16th 2009 11:21AM
...in some alternative universe...
Jawn Aug 16th 2009 11:28AM
It's a noun that lost its amateur status.
:D
Aurigo Aug 16th 2009 11:56AM
haha, Calvin and Hobbes :)
Mailia Aug 16th 2009 8:14AM
I seriously think that VanCleef should be. They could even make it lore, as Defias have been left alone for such a long time that they've had enough time to build even a bigger pirate ship.
