With news that the
Broodmother herself
is returning for
WoW's fifth anniversary and
patch 3.2.2, it got me thinking about other old world bosses which could be revamped. Now don't get me wrong, I totally get that Onyxia is a one-time thing this expansion.
All fun and no lore, to paraphrase one of our commentators, Maxim. But the concept is ripe for a Breakfast Topic, after all Onyxia is a classic raid but she wasn't the only one. Granted, she remains the most popular and the most legendary, the raid itself was almost a reward for completing what has to be the game's most epic quest chain. And then there was the loot, the
lovely legendary (if not in colour) loot. Excuse me while I drool.
So lets say, hypothetically, you could bring back any lower level boss for a short time period aimed at level 80s. Which would you choose? Personally I'd love to see the
Dragons of Nightmare, simply because they were so epic. Indeed, they are still a challenge to down today, especially with
that annoying debuff. I also live in hope of seeing something of the
Emerald Dream soon but that's for another day. So, constant readers, if you could have one boss return revamped for a hardcore level 80 raid, which would it be?

oh dear god no... lol

YES! I'd love to have an epic 5-man dungeon to lay into with some friend. Its nice to have the longer and more involved 10 and 25 mans, but it can be a hassle to get that many people together especially when it ends up being a PUG. A new 5-man epic with lots of trash and plenty of bosses and labyrinth-style confusion would make me droool.

SWP from Brutallus on on their full might.
we got stuck at him and managed to kill KJ after the 30% nerf, I want to see it full power.

Scholomance, or Stratholme!
It's a lot easier lore-wise to redo dungeons that involved zombies and undead stuff, just say that higher-level adventurers went in there and died and were raised from the dead to protect it again.

Nefarion,
Mainly because it was a rather unique fight. The way he would pick a class and mess with them in some way.
Seeing people turn into random critters, rogues getting teleported and rooted in front of nef. With Ony back we should even be able to get the cloak to be able to fight him :)
Kinda funny though, coming from me (a hunter). As he was the reason to this day I still carry around 3 bows.

I adored Nef as well. I found it sad the other day when my guild ran BWL and we didn't even need an Ony Cloak (even for the MT) in order to beat Nef. It just felt that the boss fight lost a part of its epic-ness by not requiring any sort of prep (past me explaining "aoe, then kill Nef, then aoe again, then kill nef again"), we just ran in and burned him down. Considering I was the only one in my current guild that ever ran BWL back in Vanilla WoW, I felt that they really missed out on the whole BWL experience (though I did laugh that Vael STILL managed to wipe us the very first attempt).
I'd also love to see Rag redone. There is something that is still chilling and absolutely awesome when you first hear him speak. My old guild made it mandatory to clear vent during the opening of that fight just so everyone could hear Rag pwn Major Domo.
"Too Soon!"

Pretty much every boss in Northrend could use a revamp for level eighty...
Candina@WH Aug 16th 2009 10:34AM
Actually, I think you hit on something.
I think blizz should expand the concept of 'heroics' a bit.
Every dungeon should have a 'level appropriate' mode
A 'Heroic' Mode geared toward the Current Level Cap.
A 'Valorous' Mode balanced toward geared Current Level Cap.
and a 'Triumphant' Mode that is basically a wipe fest unless you have top end gear and skill.
[you'll never guess what tokens they drop ;-)]

I'd like to see all of MC and all of BWL come back. I loved MC back at 60, so much so that I go back and visit it form time to time not that I'm 80 and Razorgore the Untamed was probably one of my favorite bosses in vanilla, truly an epic battle. Not to mention the suppression room lol Head of the Broodlord ftw!
With what they are doing with Cataclysm and 3.2.2 it would make perfect sense to revamp both dungeons for 85 content, Blackrock mountain erupts (Ragnaros) and Deathwing has returned with a new flight (Blackwing Lair is his home). You could also probably throw LBRS/UBRS and BRD in there (BRD has some of Rags colleagues in there, and UBRS/LBRS is the old home of the Black Dragonflight and their minions) for lore reasons. Just my $0.02.

er NOW that I'm 80 :p

AQ most definitely. Twin Emps at 80 would be epic. Along with this they should re-release the Scepter of the Shifting Sands questline, the opening event, and bring back the legendary mount. The questline to get T2.5 could be updated so it works with the T2 that they're already starting bring back with Onyxia (Genesis, Avenger, etc.). This would require the re-releasing of several other raids anyway, because in order to get the scepter you need to do Broodlord and the Nef speed run in BWL, Azuregos, Eranikus, to mention some. So this seems like the best idea: or maybe with the changes to Azshara they could somehow change the Azuregos part to make it more interesting. I think that the Dragons of NIghtmare should be updated, and those goofy-looking portals that they stand near should actually do something: perhaps function as a gateway to the Emerald Dream? The possibilities are literally endless, and since Blizzard is a lot bolder than they used to be, some of these things could become a reality. I also think they should go somewhere with all the Twilight's Hammer lore they have seeded through vanilla WoW. Sure, most of Silithus is dedicated to them, and they have BFD functioning as a fortress, but the quests are stale and they never really are explained in all that great of detail. I know they have a lot to do with elementals and such, maybe they could re-summon Ragnaros or Thunderaan and by so doing create an excuse to update those two as well. A lot of people are complaining that re-releasing/updating raids will "Ruin The Game" for them. Those people need to ask themselves what percentage of their time they spend raiding old world content, which would almost certainly be a tiny amount. After all, if you had wanted so badly to experience old world stuff, why did you even buy BC or WotLK? It's a bit hypocritical when you think of it. And Blizzard has several practical reasons for updating classic content as well: I know I farm Onyxia for the gold and BoE's, as well as Kara and on occasion TK/Kazzak/Doomwalker for the same reason.
Dyvim Aug 16th 2009 11:30AM
Twilight Hammer coming back is a good idea since there is no one in sithilus even doing quests anymore. I think AQ20 and AQ40 should definitely be brought back to life as well as the shifting sands questline to an extent so people can have a chance at getting their AQ Battle tank mount.
nekorion Aug 16th 2009 10:27AM
Taragaman the Hungerer of rfc.
that very first boss with a massively beefed up nova, with longer range that forces in adds and a kick that sends you accross the room would be neat. plus hes a giant demon, they can add tons to him
Candina@WH Aug 16th 2009 10:28AM
'boss' or Raid?
With the change in raid philosophies that blizz has started, I can't see redoing LBRS/BWL/MC because of the LENGTH of those raids.
How about UBRS/Rend? Short, to the point raid.
On the other hand... a NEW Azeroth raid that starred Ragnoros (sp?) or Neffarion would rock.
Maybe put Neffarion in a chamber of aspects raid? Though you'd have to lose class calls.
vocenoctum Aug 16th 2009 10:37AM
I think the thing that made them choose Ony wasn't just her being an icon, but her being so solitary. Makes it easy to update quickly.
I'd still love for them to do Heroic's of old dungeons/ raids, but it's a lot of work if they want to update things well. (Like graphics getting polished.)

Definitely the world dragons should be revamped to be level 80 worthy or well 85 if the expansion stuff is true.

100% Karazhan, and i would be the first one back in at the door a week before the patch
