Patch 3.2.0a being deployed today

Of particular note with this patch is fixing of the "dump macros" that were being used by numerous rogues. Ghostcrawler hinted earlier in the day that there would be a fix for this soon, but it's surprising to see it solved so quickly.
There are also some graphic fixes in the game that many people should be pleased about. In particular for Mac users.
The full announcement, including patch notes, after the break.
The full patch notes and statement reads:
We'll be releasing a minor bug fix patch to version 3.2.0a. This sort of patch is very small in size, and we use them to fix specific issues that can't be hot-fixed. Issues addressed with this patch:
- Fixed an exploit players were using with / commands
- Fixed a performance issue with players logging into the game
- Fixed an issue with Mac clients freezing near water
- Fixed a crash Mac clients were experiencing with shadows on Fixed Function cards
- Fixed an art issue with Freya Hard Mode where the light beams were visually too hard to see
- Fixed an issue with Loaner mounts requiring Cold Weather Flying

anyone have info on what the illegal / commands acomplished?
Kemikalkadet Aug 19th 2009 4:26PM
There was a developers command that allowed you to use all the disabled macro commands such as CastSpellByName etc. and allowed people to create illegal macros. For example you could get to to only cast a spell when you had over X rage, or only cast an interupt when your target is casting a spell.

Thanks, I had heard a bunch of references to it but no explanation.

The European forums (linked in the first page of the Blizzard Forums) explains it. /dump basically runs code as Blizzard code and can get more information that normal macros. In that case, the macro gets an info about the target cast spell to check if it is interruptable and, if it is, cast an interrupting spell.
For example, a rogue could make macros for all his attacks starting with that piece of code. That way, they don't need to worry about wasting kicks or something: The macro itself would check for interruptable casts and cast kick whenever necessary.
One of the tricks to avoid being "out of your casting school" in arenas is start casting something and stop. The "interrupter" (is that even a word?) would cast the interrupt and hit nothing, thus losing his interrupt. With that, even "fake casting" (as it is called) won't work, 'cause the macro is faster than you can interrupt.
The subject in the European forums is priceless: "Interrupting for mentally disabled"

I think there was one that was being used in pvp that would auto interrupt if the target was spellcasting, but wouldnt do anything if they werent. Essentially, you could just macro every action with that tag to start it and you would be unstopable if you have enough interrupts...

So /gimme gold and /gimme xp won't work anymore?
DAMN.
DigitalMonitor Aug 19th 2009 5:21PM
Maybe it will fix /MineWhileUnderground and /MoveFasterThanEpicMount that gold sellers have been using in Wintergrasp. *crosses fingers*

i was askin a question i wasnt tryin to sound mean :( im sry if u thought i was
SarahTheGnome Aug 20th 2009 6:19AM
No one thinks you were mean. Any comment here which people perceive as:
- a different opinion than their own
- a question which they think EVERYONE should know the answer to (this is what you did)
- making valid class remarks
So do not worry at all. You asked a question, you can do this, you did nothing wrong.
To answer your question, yes, he was being sarcastic. It was a bit of a silly joke, but he gets 3 stars, while you ask a legitimate question, and you get downrated. I wouldn't worry too much about it, comment/forum/blog people are usually very hard to please.

I only found out about them today after reading about them in Chase's Encrypted Text article.
Apparently /dump macros were being used to run 'if' loops to check whether a character was in the process of casting a spell before doing an interrupt.
For example a rogue could /dump macro mutilate and kick so that you spam the macro and when your target began casting the kick command would initiate.
It was making caster life difficult I believe.
Moral of the story is its out now anyway so dont worry about it.

I saw one listed on a certain nefarious website that had an entire spell rotation for DKs all mapped to one button. Like a dozen attacks, dozen macros, one button press for max dps. No wonder they nerfed it.
usagizero Aug 20th 2009 11:04AM
Yep, there was a random casting thing going on with DKs. One button playing. The sad thing is fixing it messed up non-problem macros like random mounts and such, the just for fun things. Not sure if they now allow that with keeping the problems out.

In other words, they got a gnome to fix their "IWIN" button and then Blizz broke it again, lol.
Wellsee Aug 19th 2009 4:36PM
Dang, no mention of fixing ferals using bombs and changing forms.
Spirit Aug 19th 2009 4:36PM
Last week when my guild was trying Freya hard mode it was a nightmare - I have to say I was part of the trouble. Those beams were impossible to see, so I'm glad they fixed it up.

After patching it says unable to validate game version on a Mac running WotLK, Is that normal?
MikeM Aug 19th 2009 4:44PM
Yeah I'm getting the same thing on PC. We need to wait till they restart the servers for the version to match up. :/
Umehte Aug 19th 2009 4:51PM
getting errors on both my mac and pc
sixhigh Aug 19th 2009 4:41PM
Great, added new patch and now I'm getting an 'Unable to validate game version.' error
