I live in a not so great area of Los Angeles and I have to say this is alarmist to the extreme. But BlizzCon is not in L.A. proper. It's in Anaheim, which is kept clean and bright by Disney. Crime is everywhere, of course, but the chances of getting mugged in Anaheim is less than most places in the world. Blizzard chose a very safe place to hold their convention.
