BlizzCon 2009: Cataclysm race-class combo matrix online

With official word that there will be new race-class combinations in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Blizzard has posted the official matrix of what races will have what classes available to them. Big surprises so far include Worgen Druid and Goblin Shaman!
The full matrix is above, and the text list below. All of our previous speculation was correct, so this should give rerollers plenty of opportunity to experience the new, shattered realm of Azeroth!
- Human Hunter
- Orc Mage
- Night Elf Mage
- Blood Elf Warrior
- Dwarf Shaman
- Dwarf Mage
- Undead Hunter
- Tauren Paladin
- Tauren Priest

Same thing I said.
I would have expected Night Elves to get Shamans since they have been so close the the draenei starting zone.

Kleenex?
Para Aug 21st 2009 5:37PM
yea they havent released the races for the werewolves and goblins.
Lyraat Aug 21st 2009 4:34PM
Did they say why no new Draenei class?
Tirris Aug 21st 2009 4:37PM
Those bastards! WTB Draenei Warlock!
Gnosh Aug 21st 2009 4:37PM
No love for space goats. This absolutely makes my day.
Kakistocracy Aug 21st 2009 5:34PM
If anything, Gnomes should get another class, looks like Tauren finally pulled ahead.

A few reasons I cam up with off the top of my head.
Draenei Warlock: They abhor the Legion and those of their brethren who went down the demonic path that was offered instead of fleeing. This would be like making a U-turn. "Look, I know we said summoning Demons and binding them to your very wills was bad and caused all kinds of crazy, not to mention cancer. It's just that this new study says all that stuff we thought, was just crap, and that Demons are all sunshine, candy, and long, healthy, productive lifespans. It was an honest mistake."
Draenei Rogue: *Activate stealth* Clomp Clomp Clomp *Nuked by mage* Crap...
Draenei Druid: Shamanism is a tie to the elements, and the elements exist almost anywhere, so they were easily able to make that tie. Druidism is more a tie to nature and the world that you live in, seeking to maintain and protect a balance. The draenei haven't been a part of Azeroth long enough to develop a sense of that balance. It's possible that nature itself won't accept them for quite some time, due to the massive damage that was done due to the Exodar crashing and scattering those crystals, tainted or otherwise, over 2 entire zones.

Let's be honest - Lore-wise, there's nothing more that a Draenei could do.
Warlock? The Draenei race itself is inherently opposed to becoming involved with demons, since the Eredar became demons themselves.
Rogue? They would see that class as being inherently problematic due to its main intent: to steal stuff. Bad rogue! No Draenei for you.
That leaves Druid. Being alien to the world, I can't see Cenarios opening up his home and powers to them. They are foreign to the world and therefore bad choice as Druids.
So.. unless a new class develops, that's it for Draenei.

@Lyraat
apparently their reason was for not giving spacegaots another class was "there is too many". still being debated if it meeans too many classes or too mny draenei.

Besides not being close to Azeroth's natural world, there are other reasons why Dranei would frown upon Druidism. Most Dranei don't even like the fact that members of their race are dabbling in Shamanism instead of focusing on the Light. The only reason it's tolerated is because Velen believes that the Broken are the key to their future. To see how unpopular Shamanism is among Dranei--okay, not among players, but in the lore--look at the fact that their only representatives in the Earthen Ring are Broken.
Warlock is right out, for obvious reasons. The only possible future class is Rogue.
As for Goblins... they'll pretend to believe in anything if there's profit involved.

Draenei get no love?
Massadonious Aug 21st 2009 4:35PM
I likely wont be rolling anything but the new races, but good for those who want more options, I suppose.
nayvion Aug 21st 2009 4:41PM
This expac seems really awesome, but the only thing i am a bit uncomfortable with is all the new race/class combination. I mean it's going to be weird seeing a tauren paladin running around; I'm also curious to see how they will explain this lore wise.
Massadonious Aug 21st 2009 4:36PM
The only class left that would of made sense for the Draneai probably would of been a Druid, but with Worgen getting them, they likely just decided to leave as is.

Would HAVE!!!
Would HAVE!!!
Sorry...I don't know what came over me.
Ilnara Aug 21st 2009 4:37PM
Worgen Druids, not nearly as far fetched as Night Elf Magi - but what do you expect from a faction that has Gnomes who have sworn off all things demonic but can be Warlocks.
The rest... *shrug*
Nick Aug 21st 2009 6:34PM
In Lore, there's a TON of NE Magi. They were just in hiding until recently. There were some quests you could do for them in Dire Maul.
Donolectic Dec 22nd 2009 2:11PM
Troll droods, huh? That makes sense to me and I'll be very interested in seeing their customized cat/bear/moonkin artwork.
I'm also very curious how Night Elf mages will be allowed lore wise.

Off-topic (sorry), but did I read on your twitter feed (www.twitter.com/wowinsider) that Worgens start at level 6. OMG they're making this game too easy. Levels 1-5 are where you cut your teeth.
