BlizzCon 2009: Cataclysm race-class combo matrix online

With official word that there will be new race-class combinations in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Blizzard has posted the official matrix of what races will have what classes available to them. Big surprises so far include Worgen Druid and Goblin Shaman!
The full matrix is above, and the text list below. All of our previous speculation was correct, so this should give rerollers plenty of opportunity to experience the new, shattered realm of Azeroth!
- Human Hunter
- Orc Mage
- Night Elf Mage
- Blood Elf Warrior
- Dwarf Shaman
- Dwarf Mage
- Undead Hunter
- Tauren Paladin
- Tauren Priest
- Gnome Priest
- Troll Druid

Wrong. AT BLIZZCON they will start at level 6 so they can get straight into the climax of the starting zones.

At blizzcon, the trial of the new starting zones starts you off at level 6 to avoid spoilers or something that happen during levels 1-5. That's where you're confusion arises.

Ah thank you for clarifying!

Its mindboggling how this site got its info from mmo-champion.com and yet, these guys are posting all these articles suggesting *they* discovered this stuff or announced it.
Is that what this site is about nowadays? You got your info from Mmo-champion, just like the rest of us. At least give credit where its due.

This is an incredibly snotty comment considering that pretty much everyone is finding this stuff out if they are paying attention to blizzcon coverage or AT blizzcon. MMOchampion does not have a freaking monopoly on being able to do research.

I hope you got some money for this, otherwise it's even more sad.

I am thrilled and surprised to see that Goblins get to be Shaman, but Gnomes need another class. Tauren and Gnomes were both stunted at 5 classes each. Tauren got two new classes whereas Gnomes only got 1 new class.
I want a Gnome Shaman or Paladin. If Gnomes can be Priests now then Paladins aren't so off the wall.

WTB gnome druid with furby-like boomkins and teddybear tanks.

Lore be damned ;)

Me too! Lore be damned! :-D

I noticed the Draenei thing too. Also interesting: the new Blood Elf class is the warrior. Every other race except for blood elves already has warriors.
It's been, what, three years since BC? So it's easy to forget that the draenei and blood elves are newer than the other classes, but still, they were. Maybe Blizzard just decided that they had got race/class combinations right by then. (And would have included warriors but they wanted to give BE paladins the spotlight.)

If I remember, the lack of belf warriors was also an interface limitation -- back before Death Knights were introduced and the "choose your race/class" bar was expanded on the character creation screen, 6 was the max number of classes a race could have. Blood Elves already had rogues, hunters, warlocks, mages, priests and paladins. They dashed warriors because there was more of a place for hunters in blood elf lore.

Something to note is that Warriors aren't the only class all races can have (lets not count Belves). Obvious, but interesting.

Tauren Paladin and Goblin Sniper. I'm contented now.
Oteo Aug 21st 2009 4:46PM
I watched the announcement video and almost cried when I saw the tauren paladin.
I don't... have to be an elf :) *sniffles*

I know there is no lore to support it, but I'm a little disappointed there will be no Worgen Shamans.
Gorevinor Aug 21st 2009 4:47PM
"All of our previous speculation was correct"
Yeah... no gloating there ;)
Bronwyn Aug 21st 2009 4:53PM
I'm so thrilled that it was, though.
