BlizzCon 2009: The Cataclysm trailer
The Cataclysm cinematic, as first shown this afternoon at the BlizzCon 2009 opening ceremonies, is pretty darn epic (as all of Blizz's cinematics have been, really). If you haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet, fear not - there are options. You can watch it embedded above in this post, or you can head on over to Blizzard's official site and watch it streaming or download a high-quality version.
And you definitely should watch it if you haven't yet. There's a ton of good information right here on WoW.com, but a video is worth quite a lot of words. There's even a gnome in this one! (A priest, near the end.) Not to mention goblins, which I hear are the new gnomes. I am incredibly excited.
BlizzCon 2009 is here! WoW.com has continuing coverage, bringing you the latest in Cataclysm news, live blogs, galleries, and reports right from the convention floor. Check out WoW.com's Guide to BlizzCon for the latest!

Having the original starting zone's re-made is pretty hardcore. I like the idea of things evolving and changing. It was always kind of depressing to me that the new players blow past the original starting zones like its a race and don't get that much from them. I remember when I was level 60 and spent a great deal of time in those early zones. Theres so many references (both comedy and lore) that you can find, especially if you read the books. Now that people can get to 80 the old lands are kind of thought of as "Throw Away" zones where you only ever go to level and even then sometimes skip. I think this expansion is going to be great, getting to re-explore all this stuff and see whats changed revisiting those zones that were long left to dust. Seeing people in Azeroth once again!

I agree that revamping the old zones was much needed. However, am I the only one that is seeing the meat of this expansion APPEARS to 1- 60. This will most likely be a $45 - $50 expansion. Is it really worth paying that much for a revamp of the old zones and dungeons. Don't get me wrong I am for the revamp of old zones and heroic versions of old dungeons. Can they honestly ask us to pay for it? You know that progression gear will most likely drop from these old dungeons. I myself cannot seeing paying that amount for a revamp of the old. I am probably in the minority here.....while it looks good I just cannot pay that amount for the lack of ACTUAL new content. Go ahead and flame me to hell. Just my opinion.

actually duce i think you have a point. But blizzard have said that they plan on having more raid content than ever before so perhaps it's just because they're focusing on telling us about the 1-60 changes instead?
volicio Aug 21st 2009 11:34PM
@DuceWild, While it dose seem that the x-pac favors the 1-60 crowd, it doesn't really. They've been saying all day that besides new quests and new looking terrain pretty much everything about this focuses on the 81-85 player, and more then not on the 81-85 raider. All the instances that are getting "revamp'd" will be end game. you'll need the x-pac for the new races, the new profession, you'll need it to see the new "unique" zones they are adding. (the ones that have never been there before, 4 or 6, in total... can't remember for sure. Sure more that the two before it this x-pac will change the way we do 1-60, but its still on a scale of 10%(1-60) 90%(81-85)

Yeah agree Sarakin it is to early to jump to what little we have heard. I am simply going by what we have now. I am not a casual player nor am I a hardcore player....somwhere in between if that is possible....lol. I just really hope for more. I do love this game. I just can't level another toon to 80/85.....I have 4 now.
cmichaelcooper Aug 21st 2009 11:40PM
@DuceWild I think you should do some reading, because it is extremely obvious that the end-game in this expansion is going to be just as significant as the other two expansions.
DuceWild Aug 21st 2009 11:45PM
@cmichaelcooper
I did read it......I have read everything that has been posted so far (no directTV) that is why I am concerned.....do you want the gear you need for progression to raid content to drop from Deadmines? I don't. If the person above my last post is right then hopefully they have enough actual content to help with that without requiring deadmines.

I wonder what will become of all the old quests. I never did get an alliance character past level 10, shame to not have the option to do that old stuff sometime in the future. But I guess If I haven't done it in 4 years I probably never would. I wonder if we'll find the arm of Mankrik's wife sticking out of a hut crushed by rubble?

I really only have two problems with this expansion:
1) Goblins seem to be an afterthought. Worgen get this whole exciting zone with new architecture and culture, while Goblins just show up on a boring (but pretty) deserted island. It just feels like Blood Elves/Draenei all over again.
2) There's way too much lava. Most of the revamping seems to be just setting everything on fire. It just looks visually "blah".

YOU'RE GONNA WRECK YOUR PANTS LIKE THE INCREDIBLE HULK!

I hated the narration. Love the expansion.
Juanin Aug 21st 2009 11:15PM
AGREED!

Agreed. Where is our old narrator? He always did such a great job.

I'm pretty hyped... im only a relatively new wow player but even though im nowhere near level 80 i'll probably start a worgen rogue when it's released... my only criticism would be that they havent tried to beat WotLK in terms of new content or whatever.... ( maybe because this time around they dont have a much hyped WAR breathing down their necks )
Juanin Aug 21st 2009 11:07PM
The only thing I'm not enthusiastic about was the music. Don't know if you guys agree, but for me it wasn't epic enough. The rest is pure awesomeness. I cant wait.
@ tyler: Q1 2010 if I remember well from the WoW.com notes. If anyone can confirm, thanks in advance.
Meg Aug 21st 2009 11:12PM
I thought the narrating was kind of silly-sounding. It's pretty clear it's a rough trailer though, looks quite interesting.
deluded spider Aug 22nd 2009 2:20AM
I actually liked the music because it's crazy sounding. I agree, it's not epic, but they mentioned that Deathwing basically goes bonkers, so I figured the music was kind of his "theme." Also, it was kind of unsettling looking at Azeroth all torn up with that weird music playing. Pretty creepy in an unusual way. And totally awesome. :)

If there was any doubt that Blizzard's "B" Team is on the job, it's now a sure thing. The trailer was a glorified machinima cut and paste of old in game footage and some new scenes. This could have been done by any of the YouTubers.
I for one, will not be blinded by fanboyism - this was lackluster and second rate. The Lich King trailer was inspiring, and made you want to get into Northrend so you could get going after Arthas - this...
Ah well, we still get to play Goblins, so all is not lost eh?
Dave Aug 24th 2009 9:18AM
which trailer are you talking about, Nathanael
ZakuraX Aug 22nd 2009 6:27AM
Some of the movie seems to be done a little quickly and therefor could have been done a little better. But it gets most of the points out and shows us just enough of the changes to get us exited ^^
