BlizzCon 2009: Worgen animation
Our own Mike Schramm brings you video of the process Worgen players will undergo when they transform, fresh from the BlizzCon floor. Enjoy your piping hot man to beast-man transformation! I know I'm going to be keeping my Worgen in his bestial form as much as possible, myself, but it's still cool to watch.
Update by Mike Schramm: Since we took this video at the Art Panel, I've played the Worgen on the floor, and this animation is now fully implemented in the demos here. Going into combat as a Worgen does a quicker animation that sends you into Wolf form (yes, you must be in Wolf form during combat, and it's purely cosmetic). But hitting the transformation ability while a human will give you this animation -- it looks great.

I think it's very interesting that it's a curse, perhaps a high-level druid can decurse them temporarily... I've always thought it a bit unfair that druids can hibernate another druid in feral form or hunters can scare beast, but a priest can't shackle a forsaken. Who knows with some of the major changes, this might become possible...

Forsaken use to be Undead back in early beta. Paladin and Priests wiped the floor with them. Seriously, it was stupidly overpowered. Thats why they were changed to Humanoids.

@Kylenne
I see as a Alliance Player i live to those type of ideals as well since i play a warrior i only fight for honor and a good duel but it will sadden me if Cairne does get killed cause he is freakin badass even though im Alliance and the thought if that really does happen will make me hate garrosh even more and make me Organize raids against him if this happens.

How does the transformation interact with armor? Is a worgen in wolf-form like a druid in shifted-form, where you can't see any armor or gear? Half of the point of the game is to collect a cool-looking set, so I really hope that worgen are animated for gear. I want huge shoulderpads!

Well, in the released screenshots it shows a Worgen Druid that's still in their armor. I suppose it'll scale right along, just like the clothing does.

Too bad there's no nude appearance toggle for Worgen form. Some of us might wanna look like a wild animal as Worgen. Then again, we could just disrobe and always appear as Worgen.

The armor scales, except that they get the troll treatment and have bare feet.

Frankly, I think their clothing should look a bit torn up, ala the Forsaken.

Honestly, I'm quite irritated that such a bad-ass race is for Alliance only and we get stuck with ugly little goblins. I'll say it again, this will drive an already bad ratio of alliance to horde well over the edge. Bad move.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I mean seriously, goblins? While the Alliance get Michael J. Fox teen wolf complete with animation?
Picviewer Aug 22nd 2009 1:25AM
I'm going to go around with a macro everytime I see a Worgen that spams
Where wolf? There wolf.....
Sure there are some old enough to know that line out there.

This worgen thing is going to be worse than the death knight break-out lol. I can't really blame people though. Who WOULDN'T want a friggin Worgen? That's like the definition of F***ing bad ass.
I'm glad Blizzard put the awesome race on the alliance side WOOT!!!
Velleekwitay Aug 22nd 2009 4:15AM
Holy crap! There are women in the audience!
deffo Aug 22nd 2009 4:23AM
does the human form come with a top hat like the guy in the trailer?^^
DennisIsAwesome Aug 22nd 2009 4:57AM
humans....why cant they be worgen all the dam time i despise humans
jbodar Aug 22nd 2009 7:50AM
I agree that the human model is an atrocity against videogames, but I don't think you HAVE to transform back if you don't want, as the article implies:
"Going into combat as a Worgen does a quicker animation that sends you into Wolf form (yes, you must be in Wolf form during combat, and it's purely cosmetic). But hitting the transformation ability while a human will give you this animation"
I could be wrong, but nowhere have they said that you revert after every combat.

I think this is fantastic. Its worth rolling alliance all that time ago. Even all that time getting pushed back into the graveyard and camped by horde in BGs.
I also found it hard to choose what race I will make mine. Ive got a level 80 druid and dk already and a mage who isnt far off. I cant bear the idea of keeping a worgen at range, they just seem to suited to melee with the claws and all. A hunter worgen seems a little strange, i mean you'd end up taming your cousin. that leaves a warrior and rogue (i think). Im sure a warrior would look great but i tihnk id rather my worgen be a bit more agile. how could it possibly be as agile as possible of all that plate wearing it down? that leaves rogues with i think matches a worgen great. they are stealthy, cunning, fast, and light armored. they could use two sprints, and combine that with the speed increasing potion and it would be godly for flag carrying. my druid is feral dps though so ill have to balance using energy again with duel wielding for the first time (my dk never did). Worgen are probably the only race that could stop me going crazy on a dwarf shaman.
I would probably change to human every now and then purely for "im so roguey you dont even know my race until im stunlocking you...ness" As good as the tranforming animation is, i hope people dont ruin it by spam-transforming in cities, although i dont like my chances.
As for garrosh and leading the horde........dont do it, please blizz, dont do it. I love thrall, i love that he is the leader of the horde but has a clam temper, and doesnt mind being in the same room as a alliance leader. garrosh is a moron, going crazy while the entire world is a risk. always calling for war, not thinking about how many orcs, and hordes in general, will die from a war.
sorry for the horrible grammar, i had a far longer and better post but i accidentally hit back before i posted it D'oh! anyway i couldnt bring myself to doing it properly again...
