Exclusive: Christie Golden writing the Cataclysm novel

Christie Golden, author of the hit novel Arthas, will be writing the Cataclysm novel. There is no additional information on this, other that its existance. One thing can be sure about though, it will no doubt contain a ton of great lore and be very well written.
We'll have our interview with Christie up for you later this evening or early tomorrow.

"author of the hit novel Arthas"
"it will no doubt contain a ton of great lore and be very well written."
LOOOOOL

Yes! I love Golden's writing - I'm a fan of both her Warcraft and Star Wars works. Brilliant news!

Ah, excellent. It'll actually be a readable book then, as opposed to the Warcraft author, who's name shall not be spoken, but rhymes with 'Hack'.

:O You didn't like Knaak's writing? I couldn't put down War of the Ancients...

"Oh Hi I'm Rhonin and I've met almost every major figure in lore and despite my crappy abilities I'm leader of the Kirin Tor"
Mary Sue. That is Knaak's problem.

@Lyssanuer:
Have you ever read a novel that wasn't a video game tie-in?
Because that's the only explanation I can think of for why anyone could possibly think War of the Ancients was passable, much less "couldn't put it down": absolute unfamiliarity with what actual quality fantasy writing looks like. It reads worse than the terribad Sailor Moon fanfiction I wrote when I was 14. Hell, even by the admittedly low standards of video game tie-in novels it was absolute dreck. War of the Ancients made the Baldur's Gate official novel look like Shakespeare.
Look, I'm a genuine MSTie and a connoisseur of B movies and trash lit and I couldn't even get through this trilogy. And I've read John Ringo novels for the lulz.

OMG!!! So exclusive to hear that Richard Knaak or Christie Golden is going to write exactly what Blizzard told us at Blizzcon, just from a character point of view.
Obvious failure is obvious.

Not sure why somebody stating the absolute truth gets modded down. Oh right! Fanboys. Knaack (who cares how it's spelled) is a horrible writer. But I'd take him over her anyday.
"Malfurion begun to cast Regrowth as he thought of her. OH TYRANDE IF ONLY I HADN'T LEFT WITHOUT WAVING GOODBYE TODAY. The pain stabbed him like a dagger to the belly."

lemme preface by saying i enjoyed arthas and i look forward to cataclysm.
that said, i found her style a little on the tween age bracket. the story went very fast and i found myself adjusting to holes in the story with every chapter. i think i was expecting something a little more involved and mature. serves me right... its wow after all ;p

Such as how she left out the entire Azjol-Nerub part?
Rabidgun Aug 21st 2009 7:38PM
Haven't read a warcraft novel yet but still WANT!
Caatul Aug 21st 2009 9:17PM
Good. Arthas was alright, but Rise of the Horde and Lord of the Clans are two of my favorite books, WoW or non-WoW. Easy reads, good storyline, well developed from stuff I already knew. Looking forward to this.

i hope this is better than her arthas book that was full of love crap fail so many http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/facepalm.jpg
Graham Aug 21st 2009 8:06PM
"love crap?"
Interesting way to describe it. Especially since it was obvious in the WC3 campaign that they had been an item. What exactly were you expecting?

Some of us liked those parts. Some of us, hard as it may be to believe, are even female.

Yes, great book for chicks. I'm sure you loved reading about the super evil wotlk star being in love with his f'n horse. That book sucked. Modding me down doesn't change the fact that she just rewrote a few cutscenes from a woman's point of view, and slapped on a man-horse love fetish.
skreeran Aug 21st 2009 7:45PM
Hell yes!
I was worried about the Lore with Cataclysm, but I'm glad to hear Colden will allay all my fears. :)
skreeran Aug 21st 2009 7:45PM
*Golden, that is.
