Cool!
Xero Aug 21st 2009 11:42PM
So, the blue-ish parts are playable areas and the yellow-ish parts are destroyed/underwater/fire covered/otherwise unplayable ground?
bluerobin427 Aug 21st 2009 11:54PM
I feel like it's more bluish-gray is the current zones and red is the new ones with yellow being the "buffer" between zones that currently exists. It doesn't look like they've put in the 'destroyed' parts on that map.
kabshiel Aug 21st 2009 11:55PM
The bluish stuff is water....
Xero Aug 22nd 2009 12:01AM
Saying the blue-ish area is water is putting the Barrens underwater, which we all know is not true (from the trailer). I like the buffer idea because it has been said that Thousand Needles is submerged and on this map it is shaded in blue, which from looking at other zones, cannot be water.
Clopert Aug 22nd 2009 12:02AM
The Blue = Water
The Grey = CURRENTLY accessible areas
Yellow = Currently inaccessible, mountains, unfinished terrain etc.
Red = New Zones
Yes, there really is that much land inaccessible in the current game
Xero Aug 22nd 2009 12:05AM
Another idea is that the art devs were like "Hey, lets just take a map of Azeroth, recolor it, and show it to people so that they just guess for 8months until we actually release a map! Oh yeah, draw an island in the middle instead of the Whirlpool"
wdm+hall Aug 22nd 2009 1:37PM
The red voted McCain, the blue voted Obama.
Torlaz Aug 22nd 2009 12:44AM
It's actually an underwater ruin/city under the maelstrom not an island on top
Gothia Aug 22nd 2009 7:00AM
Is anyone else feeling a bit of nostalgia over this reskinning of our old world playground? Frankly it is depressing to see all of the destruction. Are some instances gone? It looks like Wc is underwater and maybe Brd too. I sincerely hope that they do not destroy our classic instances. What about cities. Ironforge and crossroads may be underwater too? The whole Silithus zone is gone??? This is seriously stressing me out.
shkss Aug 22nd 2009 8:04AM
SIlithus is not gone. Bottom right of kalimdor in grey. The circular one next to it is un'goro. I think you've misinterpreted the map. The grey area doesn't mean underwater, it's simply the current zones. Disasters and what not aren't shown on the map, just new areas and old areas
Gothia Aug 22nd 2009 9:01AM
Well I hope Adam can come up with more info on this and maybe a legend.for the map.
Domi Aug 21st 2009 11:45PM
No underwater Thousand Needles?
Radiophonic Aug 22nd 2009 12:36AM
Sinking 1000 Needles would sink Shimmering Flats, Tanaris, Feralas, etc.
Kerberos Aug 22nd 2009 1:47AM
They said 1000 Needles gets flooded. This map is just the original vanilla map, not the post-cataclysm one. Grey is where you can currently go, yellow is why you can't currently fly in the old areas
Norrell Sep 1st 2009 5:37AM
"Sinking 1000 Needles would sink Shimmering Flats, Tanaris, Feralas, etc."
Yes, it might mean that. It might also mean that the Cataclysm caused the mountains on the Tanaris border to shift and prevent that destruction, at least somewhat.
Feralas is probably going to be a bog though.
Barinthos Aug 21st 2009 11:45PM
Nice! Much better resolution than before. Thanks for the updated image.
lunaarose Aug 21st 2009 11:48PM
I think the yellow area is the original location?
Suzaku Aug 22nd 2009 8:12AM
Yellow is terrain that is currently inaccessible, such as mountains and unfinished terrain.
Gray is all of the currently available zones.
Blue is water.
Red is the seven new zones.
Rabidgun Aug 21st 2009 11:48PM
Pretty cool. I cant wait to see the real one that will be in game though.
