A server will also feel less like a server when there aren't enough people on to PUG a 5-man. Just saying. The other night three of my friends were trying to find a DPS and a healer for H Gundrak, and we couldn't find anyone - there was no one in LFG, and no one responded in General, or any of the other chat channels we knew of where people on our server hang out.
Usually my guild can fill groups, but then there are these weird voids where stuff like that happens. So I don't know that I'd use this option very often, but perhaps sometimes - especially if I could actually link to battle.net friends I know on another server and run with friends I know who have characters elsewhere. Time will tell as to what options will be available for this.
I can't imagine the Battleground waittimes back in the day before there were cross-realm battlegroups. I've only seen someone from my server *once* in running over a hundred BGs.
