BlizzCon 2009: Class panel #2, the good parts version
The second and final class, item, and profession panel has concluded. Disappointingly, the presentation part of the panel was mainly a re-run of yesterday's, but the Q&A, of course, was all-new. There were even a few new tidbits in the presentation. Here are some parts of the presentation that are not repeats from yesterday:
- They didn't give any new classes to Draenei because there are too many of the space goats already.
- There's a chance that Hunter Aspects will go away entirely.
- New tidbit on Archaeology: putting pieces of artifacts together sends you to "face some sort of challenge" out in the world.
- They like the way fishing works in Animal Crossing, and might look to that for inspiration on how to rework the process.
And here are the good parts from the Q&A:
- Troll and Worgen Druids will get new Moonkin forms.
- They like the idea of hunters being able to tame their own mounts.
- There might be an epic travel form for Cataclysm.
- Block Value is being removed, but there will still be a stat on gear that increases your block chance.
- On the topic of Titan's Grip, it might be more optional in the future - it might be possible to make a competitive Fury build without TG, if you want to "be the guy that wields dual-handed weapons or wields two one-handed weapons."
- Bloodlust isn't going anywhere - "if you're going to do hard modes, it's not too much to bring at least one Shaman with you." (It seems he's not thinking about 10-man raids.) They might however introduce a consumable that brings a weaker version of the buff, like Scroll of Stamina as opposed to Priest Power Word: Fortitude.
- There are going to be more fun potions for Alchemists, as well as more being done with transmutation.
- Combustion is "on the list" for patch 3.3, but no details yet.
- They want to take another look at Shadow Priest single-target DPS.
- The revamp of Azeroth is "a great opportunity" to do more class-based quests: "teach more about how each class plays before they hit level 40. Maybe a big ability pairs up with a big quest, so you can learn how to use it." This is a very interesting answer.
- Professions specializations (like Armorsmithing) are being changed so that you don't choose just one, but you build up all of them for your tradeskill.
That's it! I hope they do come up with some really interesting class-based quests. Of course, then I'll have to go back and do them with my high-level characters, but that's alright. Or maybe I'll just reroll them all as Worgen.

Draenei didn't get any new classes because there are too many of them, but they gave Blood Elves warriors.
hmmm.....Logical fail
RetadinMan Aug 22nd 2009 8:39PM
Yeah, Night Elves, Humans and Blood Elves are each 15%+ of the total WoW population. Draenei are 9%. Dwarves, Gnomes, Tauren and Trolls I can completely understand. They have the same or less amount of players as draenei.
Eddy Aug 22nd 2009 8:46PM
I bet their logic was there weren't enough warriors, so they decided giving BE's Warriors would increase the Warrior population. They're probably right.
Otome Aug 22nd 2009 8:50PM
I mentioned the same thing earlier so I'll repeat the answer I was given here.
Blizz wanted more Warriors and Mages around, so the most popular classes got them if they didn't already. Only reason we got so many spacegoats is because they were the only Ally class that could be Shamans and, according to GC, we need our Heroism.
Not defending Blizzard, but it some ways it makes sense.
Eddy Aug 22nd 2009 8:52PM
Well, Draenei and Dwarves. Though I'd really like them to roll out tattoos along with the dwarf shaman, so they actually look like Wildhammer dwarves.

Personally, I don't think Draenei NEED more classes. What could they possibly have? I play a Draenei and I hardly ever see other Draenei's (I'm on a RP realm, ERP Draenei's don't friggin count dammit).
Look at Blood Elves, they're over-represented practically more than any other class and they still get more classes to choose from. The answer "there's too many space goats" is a bad one, I agree they don't need more but a better answer would have been "There's nothing for them to have."
Don't mind the decision, just a bad statement to word.

I really didn't get it either..... Too many draenei? ummm blood elf? wtf?
Pseudopsycho Aug 22nd 2009 11:04PM
Everyone seems to have this so very wrong. On the live stream, they said that draneis "CAN BE TOO MANY CLASSES ALREADY" NOT that there are too many draneis.
Terethall Aug 23rd 2009 4:43AM
So does this mean Blizz thinks there are... Space Goats from Coast to Coast?
FarseerLolotea Aug 23rd 2009 10:02PM
Even if the argument is that draenei can be too many classes, their logic still fails. Humans, trolls and blood elves all get just as many classes; all get a new option with this expansion.
They should either give draenei a new class option (druid would be easiest to explain) or not give blood elves one. Simple as that. They are encouraging people to play not only the new races, but every established race except draenei...and tacitly discouraging any re-rolling draenei.
It's more likely that someone in the development staff simply has something against the blueberries.

Oo -- "There might be an epic travel form for Cataclysm." Can anyone elaborate on that for me? I've read through all the articles, but it's just so much info and my eyes must have skipped over that part or any info that was mentioned having to do with it.
Anyone know where this what mentioned and what exactly was said? Thanks a ton!
Snailking Aug 22nd 2009 8:43PM
Q: Ghost wolf and travel form could maybe accelerate to mount speed?
A: That's a tough call -- Druids already don't see their gear very much, and we think that's a problem. So I would be hesisitant to say "you can't even see your mounts." We've talked about is it time for epic travel form. Maybe that's something to break out in Cataclysm.
deffo Aug 22nd 2009 8:48PM
someone asked about epic versions of ghost wolf and druid travel form. they said they don't really want to see druids spending even more time shape-shifted than we already do but they're still considering it...
Otome Aug 22nd 2009 8:59PM
They never see their flying mounts, either, unless showing off. I think having insta cast mount speed forms would help Druids feel just a bit more special. After all, nothing is stopping them from using an actual mount, but having forms that move just as fast wouldn't hurt either.
SmokeTheBear Aug 22nd 2009 9:02PM
Epic sea lion form?
tulipblossom Aug 24th 2009 8:21AM
Thank you all so much! ^_^

Wow. Can't wait to see new talents for the Xpac.
