BlizzCon 2009: Path of the Titans explained
For my money, one of the most interesting Cataclysm features they've alluded to is Path of the Titans, another character advancement system at max level. Before the Systems panel today, we didn't have a lot of solid information on it. There are still questions to be answered, but here's how it appears to work so far:
- At maximum level, you choose to align yourself with a given Titan cult - i.e., you choose a specific path.
- The paths are not class- or role-specific. Players will have to figure out for themselves what path they want to take.
- Turning in artifacts found with Archeology (the new secondary profession) will cause you to progress along your chosen path.
- The main rewards are Ancient Glyphs (not part of the Inscription profession). At each rank in your Path you have two to three choices of Glyphs.
- Some examples of Ancient Glyphs are:
- Bleed reduction
- Bandage improvement
- Increased damage following a crit
- More Glyphs will probably come after launch.
- Everyone is going to eventually be able to get all the glyphs for their path, and it will not be grindy (i.e. not like Sons of Hodir).
I'm looking forward to learning more about this as Cataclysm comes towards beta and release. I'm especially excited that they're focusing on making it not feel grindy, because that's a definite risk for a system like this.

Look man, I was drunk, okay? I have no idea where the suppository came from, and the Unicorn outfit seemed like a good idea at the time.

Maybe we could change these to Ancient Runes? Having two sets of glyphs is a little awkward. I think you could keep runeforging and Ancient Runes separate but having someone ask what glyphs you use would lead to some issues with terminology.

My concern about tying this to a secondary profession is that Archaeology will become "mandatory" if the bonuses received from Path of the Titans are substantial. We wouldn't require cooking or fishing to min/max, so I wonder how they're going to implement this.

Thyvene on the WoW-Europe forums posted what each specialization of "Path of the Titans" is.
??? Path of Aman’Thul, the High Father
??? Path of Eonar, the Lifebinder
??? Path of Norgannon, the Dreamweaver
??? Path of Khaz’Goroth, the Shaper
??? Path of Aggramar, the Avenger
??? Path of Golganneth, the Thunderer

So each Path is named after one of the Titans that made Azeroth. I imagine Norgannon will have a lot of followers, his Discs were big hits on the Azeroth Billboard Chart. :)

/sigh

"Not Class or Role Specific"
Hah! Right, for now. As soon as they're out tanks will have a "mandatory" path/set of ancient majiggers, healers will have another mandatory set.
These things are all well and good but if they effect gameplay in anyway, it's pointless to assume they can be independent of the class/role system.

I hope that there will be a Path of Sargeras too :p

what I am curious about is how many of these artifacts are you gonna need to lvl this new profession and if it will have the same max lvl as the other secondary skills and also how available are these artifacts going to be?
alot of question so early on i know.

I feel like this whole concept came completely out of left field, and I'm loving it! I wasn't expecting anything at all like this to come about. It's swept me off my feet with its awesomeness, though, and I can't wait to experience everything it has to offer.
I love that this feels like a unique way of individualizing our toons and really making them our own, even more. Plus, how fun is the way they're going about this? Archaeology? Too cool.
