BlizzCon 2009: Worgen and Goblin starting areas with the Props team
The Props team at BlizzCon showed a video on what they do, and also displayed a lot of the characterization and mood setting of the new Goblin and Worgen starting areas. The Lost Isles for the Goblins are just beautiful and quirky and funny, abounding in tropical drinks, a breakfast machine, and a "rocket-catapult-turtle-powered-machine" (and did they actually build a railroad out of bamboo?), although I have to say that the Dickensian/Victorian feel of Gilneas is just...words fail me. It's lovely. This is perhaps the loveliest, most haunting, spooky and creepy zone Blizzard's ever done, and...it's going to be an almighty lagfest when Cataclysm hits. Oh well. Truthfully, I had no idea just how much of what we think of as the "landscape" is in fact the Props team at work.
As an FYI for readers who have observed this on previous video, yes, there are gold-sellers' ads popping up on Viddler, and no, we're not happy about it, and we certainly didn't put them there.

Where is the rest of it? I want to see the new items!

I think there's a hint of when this expansion will be released. When they're showing you the preview of the Goblin starting area, you'll see some Christmas lights (Maybe it'll come out around December?). I think they even mention they're Christmas lights.
Khremloc Aug 22nd 2009 7:34PM
Naaah, they're just coloured lights! They don't hint towards the release date at all, the goblins are just using anything they've got at hand. :P
Soryne Aug 22nd 2009 10:05PM
I want to see the new items, too! Tophat plz?
Kylenne Aug 22nd 2009 7:10PM
Seriously, that's it, I'm rerolling all my toons as Goblins. The Breakfast Machine had me ded from lulz.
McCombs Aug 22nd 2009 7:12PM
Its simply stunning.
Rabidgun Aug 22nd 2009 7:14PM
Goblins own.
kabshiel Aug 22nd 2009 7:55PM
I know, right? The Worgen starting area looks really cool and moody, but something about those wacky Goblins just keeps pulling me back.
Daniel Aug 22nd 2009 7:17PM
Awesome, any idea when we can see the new items :P?
zombiesauridae Aug 22nd 2009 7:18PM
Please say you'll post the rest of that video.

Was it in the WoW Art Panel?
KJP Aug 22nd 2009 7:23PM
So in summary, "Werewolves Of London" and "Goblinigan's Island".
Itchy Aug 22nd 2009 7:29PM
There'd better be a coconut radio.
Nick Aug 22nd 2009 7:24PM
The Worgen starter area was beautiful. Goblin area... nasomuch.
deluded spider Aug 22nd 2009 7:28PM
It's like they don't want ANYONE to play Horde. :(
Ugkul Aug 22nd 2009 7:59PM
Well Gobs aren't pretty but inventive. Frankly it made me wanna roll a Gob right away. The Worgen stuff... just blah.
mibluvr13 Aug 22nd 2009 8:06PM
I look at anything Worgen related and am completely turned off. Skinny guys in fur suits running around Generic Victorian Town #6? Count me out.
Zarzuur Aug 22nd 2009 7:24PM
Both are great themes, Cata seems much more varied and colorful than Wrath (good though Northrend is).
Hyacinthe Aug 22nd 2009 7:29PM
As soon as we saw the Worgen starter area, my husband and I looked at each other with wide eyes and were both like, "ZOMG, Lovecraft." It just has that Lovecraftian feel to us- That sense of unease and decay and wrongness just under the surface of a lovely little place. Looking forward to it, for sure!

Really? Didn't strike me as Lovecraftian at all, really...
Just reminded me of Victorian era London. You know, with the architecture, top hats, tailed suits, fog, rain, looming clocktower...
I guess I can see it being kind of Lovecraftian, but it really just makes me think of guys with assorted British accents.
