WoW Moviewatch: Don't Make Me Get My Main
Cranius is the legendary WoW musician behind Big Blue Dress and Darrowshire. If you've been following Moviewatch, then you already know he worked with equally amazing machinimator Legs to create a music video for Wrought. For BlizzCon 2009, the pair again created an astounding piece of art, titled Don't Make Me Get My Main.
The story of the video is something with which most of us can empathize. At least, you can empathize with it if you've ever tried leveling an alt up through Stranglethorn. A beleaguered low level character is just trying to get his quests done, but a vile Blood Elf repeatedly gray-ganks the poor chap. The protagonist implores the ganker to leave him alone, before he's forced to go get his accomplished, powerful main character.
I'll avoid spoilers for the ending, but trust me when I say it's probably yet another experience most of us have probably suffered through before. Congratulations to Cranius and Legs on winning a first place prize with this video.

Great example of the idiocy that is the PVP servers. Thanks for reminding me why I deleted my toons from them.

then you arnt good at pvp.
This is WHY I have my chars on pvp. Yes getting camped sucks, but its fun in a way too, adds something to it, other than just la-de-da, no fear of anything happening, keeps you on your toes.

@fearinlight
I enjoy PVP quite a bit and I'm not even afraid to admit that I'm not very good at it. However world PVP in WoW is not even remotely what I'd call fun. In fact I'd even argue that it doesn't require all that much skill. At best it simply reinforces the fact that as long as you're a higher level and have better gear than the other player you'll most likely win.
More than once I've been jumped by much higher level players that weren't just bad, they were embarrassingly bad. But that's just inconsequential because they only have to manage to hit me twice in order to kill me. I can draw the encounter out, I can run and try to hide or I can let them kill me and hope they don't like camping. But unless I fight a flawless fight (and I have now and again) the odds of me defeating someone in an uneven battle is very, very slim.
As I see it then world PVP in WoW presents the gankee with an opportune time to take a bio break while the ganker shows of his mad skills on what amounts to a glorified target dummy.

@fearinlight: Actually, the opposite seems to be true. People play on PvP servers because they *aren't* very good at PvP. The only kind of PvP that's not found on PvE servers is forced world PvP, where gankers with no skill can win just by being either higher in level or higher in numbers. People who suck at PvP head to the PvP servers so they can at least win once in a while by staging incredibly lopsided fights.

My reasons for playing in PvP servers is based in what warcraft means to me. I was a fan of the warcraft series during its RTS roots. The way I see it, yes, people do get ganked on PvP servers, but it is exactly that sort of danger that makes the world feel... well... more dangerous.
I know others enjoy the strictly PvE part of the game, and that is fine. This does not mean that PvP servers are ridiculous. It simply means that some people enjoy that extra sense of apprehension as they travel through the world of Azeroth. Also, from an RPG point of view, I don't really feel like I can truly immerse myself in to a world if all encounters with enemy factions have to be mutually agreed upon. That sort of thing just doesn't happen.

Hillarious =D

I loved the singing.
But the gnome chorus had to be my favorite. :) Unexpected and well done.
Eriel Aug 24th 2009 12:25PM
The gnome choir was awsome. Great song too :D

Jafari Aug 24th 2009 1:12PM

It's an awesome song and video, and I loved the return of the Gnomes from Big Blue Dress.
You can actually buy Cranius' album from Amazon now! From memory it has:
Big Blue Dress
Darrowshire
Don't Make Me Get My Main
Captain Placeholder
And there's a fifth I hadn't seen before which I can't remember.
Vel.

Thats cool, I think Ill buy it next month to support him and because I would really like to have those on my Ipod.
Erin Aug 24th 2009 12:35PM
This is why I never get my main. Because I know she'd just get killed and add to my humiliation.
I really liked the video and the song, very well done. :)
sammy Aug 24th 2009 12:35PM
Great job.
However, when I bust out my main on lowbie campers, 90% of the time I roflstomp them simply because they tend to be bored terribad PVE players.
The other 10% of the time I just hang my head in shame because they killed my maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnn....
Karilyn Aug 24th 2009 2:55PM
Pretty much.
I think my favorite part of being on a PvP servers is when I get to camp a ganker. I'm quite relentless. I will not hesitate to camp a ganker for an hour or more.
Never felt the desire to camp someone who wasn't a ganker though.

Yay, a new awesome song from Cranius!!! And the gnome chorus has returned!
Oh, and yes... that song sounded way too familiar. I play a gnome mage, so I draw horde aggro like crazy in STV.
