My reasons for playing in PvP servers is based in what warcraft means to me. I was a fan of the warcraft series during its RTS roots. The way I see it, yes, people do get ganked on PvP servers, but it is exactly that sort of danger that makes the world feel... well... more dangerous.
I know others enjoy the strictly PvE part of the game, and that is fine. This does not mean that PvP servers are ridiculous. It simply means that some people enjoy that extra sense of apprehension as they travel through the world of Azeroth. Also, from an RPG point of view, I don't really feel like I can truly immerse myself in to a world if all encounters with enemy factions have to be mutually agreed upon. That sort of thing just doesn't happen.
