Around Azeroth: 57 channels and nothing but scaly demon butt on

Jared sends us this image from the end of the incredibly long questline in Nagrand where you, as the player, accidentally help convince Garrosh Hellscream that it's cool to be a raving jerk to everyone he meets by convincing Thrall to show him home movies of the time Garrosh's extremely crazy dad and Thrall totaly killed Mannoroth. So basically, all the antics Garrosh gets into from this point on are because Thrall really likes slides. You couldn't maybe have shown him the ones of you and Jaina in Ragefire Chasm?

Best questline ever.

i always get my chars to exalted with the mag'har/kurenai, because i think talbuks look rad, and getting there by doing this on my first three was just awesome... its SUCH an excellent questline. It really makes me a bit sad that all my alliance chars missed out though, because they unfortunately dont get anything like it :/

Sure we do Evelinda!
Deep within the forest of Ashenvale is the small town of Astranaar where you begin the EPIC 11 part quest chain to save a local village of Furbolgs from being corrupted by a power hungry Chieftain. Such a quest involves putting both your physical and mental abilities to the test as you use a magical rod to take form of their own kind and be able to truly understand the trouble at hand as you glimpse into the faults of your own races folly in their affairs and how it has affected them.
Only YOU can be the savior of keeping this fragile state of relations that has lasted hundreds of years from shattering.
Me? Hah... Personally I kept the rod and went to find another zone to quest in.

Ya know, I remember doing that quest on my hordie hunter and Garrosh's current actions make me believe that maybe he "drank something" that is causing him to follow the destructive path of his father.

This was a great questline, but I still don't understand how this turned Garrosh from an emo kid into the raging tard he is in Northrend. If anything he seemed proud to follow his father's more heroic examples, and was more grateful to Thrall at Garadar than he has been since the events of Wrath. Plus the fact he spent all his time moping about how his father was a war-mongering douchebag who damned his entire race, and now Garrosh is doing the EXACT SAME THING, minus the demon blood influence.
It also doesn't explain his inexplicable seething hatred towards the Alliance. I mean come on, he's only known those guys for less than a year and he already wants their heads.

IMO Blizzard totally ruined Garrosh just so they could make World of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. As you have pointed out his change makes exactly zero sense.
If they wanted a war they should have just taken Thrall out of the picture and made Saurfang warchief. He isn't a raving jerk but he follows Orcish honor and wouldn't take Varian's aggression. Hell they could even have some bad guy create a serious of misunderstandings to have them go at it. Much better than "oh yeah Garrosh is everything he always feared he would be, but he doesn't even have the excuse that he drank demon blood like his pops".
New Garrosh acts more like one of the Blackhands than a Hellscream or member of the new Horde.
Conspiracy theory: New Garrosh is actually a black dragon and his war mongering is part of Deathwings plans. Or a resurrected Rend Blackhand warchief of the Dark Horde himself. That or its lolretcon like the Eredar.

To me the lack of the demonic influence makes what Garrosh is up to all the worse. At least Grom had the excuse of being all hopped up on Legion Juice to explain his actions. Sure he was a blood thirsty cur in his own right a lot of the time, but he also had the history for it and a good number of savagely heroic exploits to go along with it. On the other hand I think Garrosh is just puffing up his chest and trying to play the big man (or Orc) for the most part.
kabshiel Aug 25th 2009 10:38AM
Garrosh spent his entire life being ashamed of his father. Then Thrall comes along and tells him that Grom saved the Orcish race. I can definitely see Garrosh trying to live up to his dad's psychotic example. The sad thing is that I don't think Garrosh is really as crazy as he pretends to be; he just thinks that's how a Hellscream should act.
snowleopard233 Aug 25th 2009 10:42AM
Yeah I truly feel both Garrosh and Varian came out of left field in this expansion. Nobody even knew who Varian was because they stopped reading the crappy comic books after issue one and Garrosh in no way resembles his former self from outland. I like how we’re getting more war in warcraft but the personalities and motivations behind all these new conflicts just feel incredibly contrived and two-dimensional.
Killchrono Aug 25th 2009 10:57AM
@TheRaptor: Actually I doubt Saurfang would start a war either. He shares Thrall's vision of peace and feels ashamed for the actions the orcs took in the first and second war. Sure, he won't sit idley by if the Alliance threaten his people, but he's not gonna go looking for fights like Garrosh.
@kabshiel: That is the one of the only justification I can think of for Garrosh's attitude change. It's interesting to note that if you do the starting quest in Warsong Hold after having done the Nagrand questline, Garrosh is far kinder to you and thanks you for helping earlier. Even Saurfang, despite their quarrels, shows some sympathy towards him, saying Garrosh has a heavy burden to carry. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's playing up is rage to live up to his father's name.

Funny how ppl are quick to show how much of a raging moron (and I agree) Garrosh is, but in the Ulduar trailer he and Varian behave exactly the same. Interesting.

Bullsh!t. Varian makes a snappy comment, Garrosh responds with a full-blown insult. Varian insults him back and Garrosh draws his axes and RUNS AT HIM. Varian doesn't get his sword out until Garrosh forces him to defend himself.
To put this in perstactive, they're in Dalaran, with Rhonin, Thrall, and Jaina all present. Imagine what the reaction would be in the UN assembly if someone responded to a snide remark by drawing a knife and running at the person.
Garrosh is a freaking idiot top to bottom and he's lucky everyone else in the room decided to play nice, because they could have shish kabobed him.

WTB said videos of Thrall and Jaina in Ragefire Chasm.
I bet it was getting pretty hot and steamy in said chasm during the elapsed video time period in question.
devilsei Aug 25th 2009 1:22PM
Yeah, how else do you think it got that name?
When those two got in there alone, there was definitely a raging something, and a fire was definitely lit, and trust me Chasms where explored...
the mobs? They were attracted by the smell.

A little off-topic, and damn me to hades for injecting a Cataclysm question into a rare non-Cataclysm topic, but I gotta ask: Will Northrend be affected by the titular Cataclysm? Global warming via dragon? I'm cereal, people!
Jim Aug 25th 2009 10:36AM
"global warming via dragon?"
Don't you mean ManBearPig? I'm super duper cereal! :P

"CRAYONS ARE DELICIOUS!" - The Warcry of Garrosh DURHURR Hellscream.
Killchrono Aug 25th 2009 11:02AM
That made me think of the Simpons episode where Homer found out he had a crayon stuck in his brain.
Well played, sir.
Irem Aug 25th 2009 11:23AM
"You couldn't maybe have shown him the ones of you and Jaina in Ragefire Chasm?"
I think Thrall knows better than to release those anywhere near the general public. >_>
Guildenstern Aug 25th 2009 11:45AM
Or small children. Or the easily shocked.
