BlizzCon 2009: A look at the BlizzCon store

When the online BlizzCon store first became available, Adam Holisky pointed out that while there was a lot of unique swag being sold at BlizzCon, none of it seemed really amazing. At the time, I had agreed with him. I mean, plush murlocs are always awesome, but nothing I saw in the gallery really blew me away.
And then I saw the stuff in person. Isn't that always the way? Something about standing there, with those beautiful items lit up in their glittering case, called to me like the dork that I am. But, it's something that's hard to explain -- you have to see it yourself.
Check out the gallery below to see the items on sale at BlizzCon 2009. If I were pressed to pick my favorite, I'd probably go with the "Time is money, friend!" T-Shirt. It seemed like a neighborly way of welcoming the Horde's new friends: the Goblins.

The shirt is, the pictures are rather... bad.
Nice couple of shots there of the *stand* for the Arthas helm.
Gessilea Aug 25th 2009 4:45PM
Yeah... well... it's probably hard to take pictures through a glass case while a zillion people are bumping into you, so I'll cut whoever took the pictures some slack there.

I had to lol for real at the plastic sword for $90. That t-shirt kicks some serious butt however.

The poker set actually looks nice, but it seems like it's pretty stingy on the chip count. If I end up playing with anything more than four people I definitely need way more than it's got.
It's a real shame, too, because that's the item that made my eyes go wide when I first saw it.

There are two things I've seen on ebay that I would have bought, or at least tried to, at Blizzcon. One, a horde wallet. There are leather ones on ebay, they say they came from blizzcon, they look awesome. The second is the Deathwing shirt. Black, red outline of Deathwing. It looks absolutely awesome, saw a Blizzard dev wear one in a picture. Want it bad.

I didn't see a wallet there at the BlizzCon store.
The t-shirt is awesome. They added it to the store after the Opening Ceremony. It has the Cacaclysm logo on the back and says: "Hidden within Deepholm an ancient evil has aweken". The front is an awesome red and black headshot of Deathwing. Nice colors and a little more subtle than the Wrath shirts.

The Horde and Alliance wallets were sold at the Jinx booth. They debuted at BlizzCon for $25 each (along with some awesome new shirts, like "Classically Trained Raider" for all you old-school raiders and new druid and warlock designs), but they should be eventually released on Jinx's online store. I picked up the Alliance wallet and it's pretty classy. It has "Six Slot Wallet" printed on the inside.

The wallets were being sold by Jinx IIRC.

Glad to hear that. Despite possibly faction swapping to the alliance when Cataclysm comes out, that was an amazing wallet. I can't wait to pick it up.

Bubble Hearth Beach Ball!!! LOL!

Something I've noticed about Blizzard's online store is it's lack of interesting things like this. All it has is absolute core, basic items. How about some cool t-shirts and stuffed murlocs and such. It seems to have very little to offer including gift certificates or some way to send a gift to a friend. At $6.50 each I was thinking of some authenticators for friends for Christmas...
Rabidgun Aug 25th 2009 5:11PM
Must have that shirt, friend.

I think the shirt gave me an idea for my next tattoo...

I have to admit, I kind of dig the Frostmourne for 90 bucks. I mean, it'd be much better if it weren't plastic (even a dulled ceremonial tin or aluminum would be nice, something you can hang on the wall - that's right I'm a dork) but it's still pretty cool.
I really like that poker set though, and the talking Pandaren bottle opener!

The only real additions to the store at the convention was the poker set, Cataclysm shirt and a special Starcraft II authenticator. The Zerg bag they showed on the Razer site was not there, only the same ghost one they had online. I had to look around a bit to figure out where the Cataclysm shirt was coming from. They didn't have any in the display cases and the store order form listed a WoW dragon shirt, but it didn't say anything about Cataclysm nor did it have a picture next to it like the other items on the form. I eventually saw Deathwing on a shirt behind one of the cash registers and purchased one. The pins too I believe were $3 cheaper than at the end of the online sale. Many things eventually sold out.
Olee Aug 25th 2009 6:39PM
Can we see more pictures of the pins please? I'm not sure there were enough!

I spent probably close to $500 between Jinx and Blizz's stands.
Sure, a lot of that was stuff for friends who couldn't make it, but I came home with a *lot* of stuff.
The "limited edition" Cataclysm Deathwing shirt is just amazing.
But my favorite item, bar none - the SC2 Messenger Bag. It's absolutely awesome.
Not only does it look fantastic, it's incredibly well-built, has lots of space and I've already received plenty of complements on it; even from non-gamers.
They sold out of that (along with a lot of other items) - and by the end of the last day, I had people offering me double what I paid for it for mine.
I would have loved to see matching Alliance and Horde bags, but this was pretty sweet.
The only thing I bought that I felt I got fleeced on was Jinx's Carrot-on-a-Stick keyring. That was $10, and couldn't have cost them more than 50 cents to make.
Oh well - that's what vacations are all about, right? Spending too much money on junk! :)
