It was a hectic two days at this year's
BlizzCon with lots of revelations,
some good,
others awesome. Destruction is coming to Azeroth with the return of
Deathwing,
changing the face of the planet forever. While we won't see the game until
2010, the world will change entirely and cities will be revamped in order to enable them to be made flyable. However, there are several very important locations currently in-game (for the most part) which are going to be very important to the coming Cataclysm.
Check out our gallery below as we take you on a guided tour of some of the important places you should probably visit right now before they are changed forever.

Repent! The end is near! In one year the Tauren calendar will come to an end, signaling the devastating destruction of the world! There is still time! Pledge your loyalty to the light and ensure your safety for eternity!

it isnt rlly fair, the horde takes over ashenvale and southshore, while the alliance dont gain any new land, wtf?
Ametrine Aug 25th 2009 2:19PM
Should've worked harder at World PVP, I guess.
Leviathon Aug 25th 2009 2:20PM
The Horde didn't take over Southshore (least not yet) so you should really stop looking too into that. Even if Southshore was lost there would be another Alliance camp in the zone. And there are other Alliance towns in Ashenvale also (Forest's Song and Maestras Post).

"Q. Were you serious when you said Southshore will be lost to the Horde?
A. We've actually talked about that in several different ways recently, I don't know what we ended up deciding. We discussed Southshore being lost to the Horde and then we're also going to have Southshore being victorious, so I don't know what's going to happen with that, we talked about both of those recently."

Well, war isn't fair. We don't know what's planned for the expansion after Cataclysm, so in the meantime..... stiff upper lip.
(Maybe we'll get something else to compensate. Cooler capital cities? Less running all over the place in quests because we got smaller zones than them? I dunno.)

I'm gonna kind of miss Southshore if it goes, but considering how much the area has been fought over its not too surprising. I just kinda wonder what happens to those poor alliance farmers in Hillsbrad.
The push into Ashenvale doesn't sit as well with me, just cause there is such a strong Night Elf presence in the region and for them to get totally pushed out seems odd, if anything I thought they were going to have a stronger presence with the introduction of the Draenei and the settlement at Forest Song growing into something. Maybe the Night Elves will get more land in Stonetalon or Desolace but it still seems weird. Weirdest of all is the fact that Auberdine and Darkshore are going to be changed so much when they're kind of on the opposite side of the map from the Maelstrom and Deepholm.

What I'm interested is will they "repair" Exodar? It would be nice see it... hover at least.
Barinthos Aug 25th 2009 2:23PM
Ooh that would be cool. Never really thought of that. At least pick up the debris around the damn area and make the ship upright lol.
Kylenne Aug 25th 2009 2:34PM
By that token, it would be nice if we had the other half of our city in Quel'thalas back.
ash Aug 25th 2009 2:52PM
That would be awesome Kylenne, especially if they used the phasing technology to make it so you can see it how it was when you start a low level character but then see it eventually get better.

And fix all the crack inside

I've climbed up to almost the top of the gate in the Greymane Wall, enough to look behind and see that right now there's nothing there in the current world, just blank wall. (If you just walk up to it, you think you see things behind the gate)
Also, I've found SFK is one of the few dungeons where you can actually fall out of the instance, back into the world. Most of the dungeons we have now have balconies and things we can't jump over, even when they're low (I really wanted to jump on the rock that was next to the final balcony on BWL this morning, for example, as there's what looks like a path there); but you can jump off the wooden stair/scaffolding in SFK and fall, exiting the instance, landing outside :)

Currently, there's just completely flat dirt behind the Greymane wall. Hunters and Shamans can use Eagle Eye and Far Sight respectively, placing the camera on top of the wall to see behind.
Laynne Aug 25th 2009 3:04PM
I've actually been behind the Greymane Wall (yes, there's a way to do it). You're right, there's grass and stuff up to a certain point (just enough so you can see something when you look through the gate), and then it's completely empty. It's just a big empty space with very high hills surrounding it; not even coloured. My friend is thinking about logging out in there when the expansion comes out, just to see what happens. He logged out inside of old Dalaran before Wrath, and when he logged in he was falling into the newly formed Dalaran crater :)

You can swim south from Silverpine Forest off the coast, and if you hug the coast around to the south and then east, you'll come to Hillsbrad before you get to any dry land in Gilneas. At least, that's how it worked when I tried it during BC. If you can see flat dirt just over the wall, then there must be steep hills not too far beyond it. Why, though? That's weird.
Mitheros Aug 25th 2009 2:36PM
not coming out till 2010.. so might as well just chill out and take your time soaking up the old world now, before it gets changed, we've all got quite a bit of time actually
Reinforcements Aug 25th 2009 5:36PM
Oh man, I just realized that if Garrosh does become the new orc leader (I don't doubt it per se, I'm just not positive it's official) then Fandral Staghelm might lose his lofty title of Most Hated Faction Leader! Will the Horde see its members helping the Alliance kill one of their leaders for a change? Maybe Staghelm will do something really bad to try to hold onto his title?
On another note, it'll be interesting to see what happens to Hillsbrad. If Southshore is destroyed, will the zone become Horde-alligned or will they do something else, like maybe turning the town of HIllsbrad into a real town instead of just a Horde questing area? The extent of the Cataclysm actually makes it hard to speculate on this kind of thing - any zone might see towns appear and disappear and the mobs and their levels completely change, so it's really hard to say. They pretty much have to keep the starting zones as, you know, starting zones and work around that, but anything else is up in the air.

Actually, the real question is whether Fandral Staghelm will even be a faction leader after Cataclysm. Malfurion Stormrage is slated to make his grand return to Azeroth to fight Ragnos's army on Mount Hyjal. I sincerely hope Malfurion will take a detour to Darnassus, walk up to Staghelm and kick his condescending ass off of Teldrassil once and for all.
