"and Sargeras? "
Focusing on Deathwing's corruption really skews what my question actually was. Specifically, I had asked if beings like the Old Gods were working on a cosmic scale and behind Sargeras's corruption, the Burning Legion and other notable examples of corruption, such as Deathwing and Arthas. Thorim and the other watchers in Ulduar are the most concrete example of Old God influence currently in game.
War of the Ancients speaks of a voice whispering to Deathwing, I believe, with no clarification as to what that voice is. Azshara heard a similar whispering during the Sundering. Knowing WoW lore, there are relatively few choices as to what was whispering.
Once again, though, my question was focused more on the scope of the Old Gods influence beyond Azeroth, rather than just Deathwing.
