I didn't really know what I was to prepare for. This dinner way exceeded any expectations that I had. I had no idea I was going to have personal conversations with anyone important.
Having said that, you say you doubt the Old Gods have any influence outside of Azeroth. I very much agree with this statement. However, if you look at Lovecraft lore, C'Thulu, Yogg' Saron, etc. are fairly low level beings in this whole mythos. They are so defined in their sphere of power that they merely deal with a single planet.
There are multiple heirarchies above them and in true Lovecraft mythos, these are the elder beings... their very nature being so inhumanly understandable that any sort of contact can drive you insane. Hmm... sounds like a Yogg'Saroth mechanic, doesn't it.
I was asking very specifically along these lines. We all know the Old Gods were imprisoned by the Titans. However, these are relatively lowly servants of a higher master. This where Chris Metzen's Naaru response came in... not regarding Sargeras.
However, even then... what drove Sargeras mad? He was out fighting the Burning Legion thoughout the cosmos, not digging around in the underdepths of Azeroth.
