Flavor names for new race/class combos
Unsurprisingly, the hottest forum topic upon the announcement of new race/class combinations in Cataclysm isn't an analytical discussion of their racial strengths and weaknesses -- it's pun names for Tauren Paladins. Well, Kisirani, illustrious World Event Designer and Mistress of Flavor, popped into one such thread to give the actual name that Tauren Paladins will be given, a la Blood Knights -- "Sunwalkers."
A great name, and somehow less menacing than "Blood Knights." One has to wonder if this sets a precedent for the other new combinations, too. Could we be seeing Forsaken Hunters phased in via quests as Dark Rangers? Dwarf Shamans as Wildhammers? Blood Elf Warriors as Sunreavers? Dwarf Mages as Runeweavers?
Kisirani indicated that the new combos would be phased in gradually and with ample explanation for each one via new quests and NPCs, and we've already seen the start of those with the An Injured Colleague and A Cautious Return quests added on the PTRs. There are lots of great flavor opportunities here, and I hope that Blizzard takes the time to introduce each and every new combo in their own unique way. Then again, with Kisirani at the helm of the whole thing, I doubt we have much to worry about.

Can't wait to roll my holy cow!
Sunwalkers FOR THE WIN.
Deadly. Off. Topic. Aug 27th 2009 4:27PM
So if they're calling them Sunwalkers for their faith with the sun, what were they called for the moon? Nightwalkers... erm...somehow that doesn't seem right.
Oteo Aug 27th 2009 4:34PM
The "Moonwalkers" are actually the druids, if you've done the Injured Colleague quest. Druids aren't officially called Moonwalkers (eheh), but since modern Druid teachings are currently based off of Night Elven traditions, there's a heavy emphasis on the moon.

What, no Skywalkers?
The Giant Aug 27th 2009 9:25PM
Not going through the comments to start off with, I'm pretty sure that there will be a
"Udder" the Lightbringer.

Those custom names for groups are just pathetic only because why should Blood Elves be the only ones to get them? Draenei never got them, neither did Humans or Dwarves. What the hell makes other races so special?
Beliam Aug 28th 2009 7:35PM
Actually, Draenei Paladins are known as Vindicators, and Draenei Warriors (especially guards) are called Peacekeepers
The more you know

I guess Holycow wasn't punny enough.
Josh Aug 27th 2009 3:13PM
That's why I didn't use it. Almost... but I restrained myself. ;)
Firestride Aug 27th 2009 4:24PM
There's already a "Holicow" that I've seen about Gnomeregan, which indicates to me that there's a "Holycow" somewhere too. Of course, he's an undead priest, though.
macster Aug 27th 2009 5:06PM
Guess not. How about "BUFFalo"?
No?
Josh Aug 27th 2009 5:12PM
@macster Win!
