Behind the scenes of the Dragon Queen costume

It's totally fun to browse through the costume gallery or the pictures of the costume contest we took last weekend and marvel at the different costumes that showed up at BlizzCon, but what you don't see in those shots is all of the hard work that went into making each outfit. Sure, there are probably some store-bought purchases in there, but for the most part, each costume was assembled with lots of hard work and care, most of the time by the person actually wearing it.
Mariecannabis is the woman wearing this Alexstrasza costume that we saw at the costume contest, and she has posted a gallery over on Flickr showing some of the behind-the-scenes work of making the molds and putting the costume together. The end costume looks great, but the process is all shapes and molds and paint and construction -- fascinating to see how it all comes together. And while this costume is terrific, it does make you wonder about the stories behind some of the even more complex costumes up there.
Stay tuned for more -- we'll be seeking out a few of the best costumes we saw at BlizzCon, and we'll show you some more of their stories in the future here on WoW.com. It's fun to see all of those on the show floor, but you sometimes don't realize just how much work and time is actually put into them.

well, the costume looks very cool, its well designed and beautiful, but cant say the same about the one wearing it

You're an ass.
She's a very beautiful woman. I -might- say the costume isn't very flattering, but I find her absolutely gorgeous regardless.
Keep your negativity to yourself.

I'm sure she'll lose many hours of sleep because she doesn't have YOUR approval.
Asshat.

I think it all turned out pretty decent.
And props to her for all the work put into it. Half the costumes were just some guys using the contest as an excuse to wear their LARPing gear to blizzcon.

If she didn't want to get criticized for being a fatty she shouldn't wear such a revealing costume.
Barinthos Aug 28th 2009 1:38PM
@L - It's not about having to worry about criticism. It's about having pride in showing off all your hard work. I'll admit she has more guts than I do in being able to wear a costume in the first place(outside of Halloween).
Also, you're just as much an asshat as revan.

Also, if you read her blog. SHES A DAMN FURRY.
Superthrust Aug 28th 2009 2:07PM
/agree with L and OP. Coulda been the succubus chick from last year, imo...

Chance that the people calling her fat, are themselves immensely ugly and/or virgins: 98.542%

The costume is great. Better than some of the ones I've seen. The only thing that could have been better was the boots, they look mushy(?) and more like slippers. Also the painting looks too thick and like paste. But that could be due to the fact that the latex material doesn't like being painted.
Great costume though.

She's not dressed as Alexstrasza. She's dressed as the Alexstrasza action-figure.
Mailia Aug 28th 2009 1:20PM
I find the costume looking.. A bit melted like?
Barinthos Aug 28th 2009 1:32PM
Yeah! That's kind of what I said in my post but didn't know how to describe it. It's like it's chunks of melted rubber or something. It doesn't detract from the overall look too much, but if there was a way to make it more polished and smooth it would look totally bad ass.
Monkeynugg Aug 28th 2009 1:27PM
Am I the only one who noticed that she doesn't have a belly-button??
Monkeynugg Aug 28th 2009 1:50PM
She's a clone!!!!!!
Barinthos Aug 28th 2009 1:30PM
According to her blog she is wearing a flesh toned body suit.
Ruana Aug 28th 2009 1:31PM
She said in the post that she's wearing a bodysuit.
Gruelon Aug 28th 2009 1:32PM
It is because she has some sort of body suit on, it you look at her arms it shows the wrinkled fabric
Elionene Aug 28th 2009 1:34PM
She mentions on her Live Journal page that she's wearing a body suit, so the costume is one piece, plus the head piece.
The whole ensemble looks like it was a lot of hard work, so props to her for making such a great costume! Must have been a thrill to walk out on stage and show it off.

i believe she's wearing a body sui....k jk. i think we got the point.
