'...like taking a Frost Mage into high-level raiding content...'
Oddly, many of us do this daily, and somehow are not immediately turned into roadkill, often having quite a modicum of success, in fact.
It's really annoying to read these sorts of things in a column that's supposed to represent *all* mages, not just the Mages of the Week Club.
It also strikes me that if you can put this sort of rubbish in your column you obviously do not play a Frost Mage, and probably should do so, before dismissing the entire spec.
Have a nice day.

Guildenstern - My friend's Frost Mage enjoys 5k+ dps, and my Warlock hates him for it. So I don't know what you're talking about.

Uh huh.
When I actually witness a Frost mage break 3k in a raid I'll believe it.

@blacksabre - Christian said that taking a Frost Mage into a raid was unorthodox, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Frost mages bring some utility in the form of replenishment, commendable AoE dps, as well as giving Fire mages the night off from scorch duty, while at the same time holding their own in DPS. Their survivability also means that healers don't have to worry as much about healing them.
While they bring their own strengths to the table, just don't expect frost mages to top the charts anytime soon. Playing one myself, I can attest that with proper cooldown management and gear selection, 3-4k DPS is certainly attainable with Naxx-25 gear.

'Sure, the game allows us the illusion of character customization as it currently exists, but that illusion is shattered the moment you try something unorthodox, like taking a Frost Mage into high-level raiding content. It doesn't matter how much you love playing a Frost Mage or how skilled you are; there is only one truly optimal spec out there at any given point in the game's lifespan, and you simply didn't pick it.'
Christian has basically tossed Frost Mages under the bus, with this statement. I don't share his opinions, and I resent that someone who holds his opinions is placed in a position where he can state his opinions as facts, and dis me (and other Frost Mage players) for our choices.
Our guild is farming everything except the new stuff from 3.2, and my DPS often pushes 4K, and just as often leads the meters. I supply far more than 'a table, buff everybody, and get out'.
And a side note to Mr. Gildenstern: If YOUR frost mages can't hit 3K, then you must be a friend of Christian's, and may Wow have mercy on your soul.

Sure, you probably are doing decent damage over the course of the raid, especially in farming content because you can just AOE everything down, but when it comes to the bosses Frost mage DPS is just sub par (unless the boss needs a lot of AOEing) and generally people only care about the damage you do against a boss, since trash isn't that hard.

Be less buthurt Frost Mages.
He didn't say you were bad. He didn't say you were idiots. He said it was unorthodox and not optimal. Which you can't deny.
And Blacksabre if you are only pushing 4k and leading the meters you aren't farming everything except ToC. I don't see how you can do hardmodes with you top DPS only at 4k, and I really fail to see you even doing Thorim onwards unless all your DPS are within 10% of each other (and if you are beating optimally specced DPS classes they are either bad or you are brilliant).
Oh and congratulations on having the DPS output of a Shadow Priest, which is a hybrid class and has much more utility than a Frost Mage. My less then two week old Enhancement Shaman can hit 4k, most other hybrids can hit 5k+ in Ulduar gear, it isn't hard.
Frost Mages are sub-optimal for pure DPS, and replenishment since the nerf is barely worth it. Deal with it.

Sorry but cry more.
If tomorrow Mr Belt says it is unorthodox to spec fire for PvP, fire mages will not be crying, because it is true.
Cookie cutter specs for fire/arc and ff are better than your frost spec. You can whine as much as you like, but it is true. Mr Belt did not say; LOOOOOOOOOOL U SPEC FROST UR NAB.
Then you can feel offended. Just stating that it is not something that most would do, is just fact, nothing to throw a hissy fit about.
And all the dps remarks. I knew this mage, and he thought he was the bestestest of his class, because he topped the charts in his raiding guild. Then he switched for a better one and well... reality hit. You saying you top the meters can mean you play with people who are not on top of their game, or it could mean you are on top of your game. But GENERALLY speaking, frost is the worst spec for PvE there is.
